  • What are five things you hate?

A few points before I begin...
    1. Hate is such a strong and violent word. What about strongly dislike? [wow.. I'm tired. I sound like a new age hippy kindergarten teacher.]
    2. Five. I'm not into numbers.. (At least not most of the time..) So can it be 2.5 or 3.14 things I hate?

Now on to the actual question.

    1. I just finished a job application for a summer job. It was on the internet. What ever happened to job apps that ended with references? The app continued with a bunch of random statements and asked me whether I agreed with them about completely irrelvant things. "You like small talk." "You don't like when people get to close." "You are impatient with slow moving people." .. Wouldn't it save a lot of time to just ask me:

You feel that you are a sociopath.
    a. Strongly Disagree
    b. Disagree
    c. agree
    d. strongly agree

    2. I hate when people are know-it-alls and actually do know it all. Its obnoxious and frustrating. If you do know it all do as Superman and Jesus did. Try and blend in with us mere mortals (otherwise we are likely to develop an inferiority complex.. and Jesus knows what happens when we do!)

    3. The feeling of dirty demin. Its why I have so many pairs of jeans. No repeats in a week (when I used to do laundry once a week only.)

That seems to be approx. 3.14 things. Bas. The list is over. I don't hate a lot of things. Now its time for my bed.

    PS:Featured Questionanswer it!

PPS: I sound like an Indian. A India Indian. Not a Columbus Indian.

  • Word of the Day: Air Head

I am often accused of being an air head. (I'm not!! I swear I'm not!!) I was curious about why every one calls me an airhead so I decided to do what any self respecting person with internet access would do... I googled it!

First, I came up with the candy.

I don't see any physical resemblance. I'm not packaged in plastic and I don't come in fun colors. And I'm pretty sure I don't taste like watermelon or cherry. (Someone would tell me if I did... wouldn't they? What if I actually do taste like watermelon or cherry and no one has had the heart to tell me?)

Then, I tried urbandictionary.com. There were a bunch of really good definitions, some of which were accurate and some of which were not.

    Less Accurate:
Oral sex on an airplane. Interesting idea though.

What about 70% of people on the earth can seem like.
Since I'm obviously not like the common rabble..
The air head candy can seem smarter than some air headed people. Duh!

    More Accurate:
Someone who acts, speaks and functions without thinking
Ahh.. Then it gets to the heard of  the matter. I have been told  five thousand fifty four times before that I need to think before I act, speak, breath.. Sometimes, I've gotten into trouble for speaking and acting before thinking. Actually thats a lie.. I get in trouble all the time. (You don't get to be the patron saint of pink elephants for nothing!) But the point is.. Because I am horrible impulsive does that make me an airhead?

I've been told that I need to change. A part of me wouldn't mind avoiding those hairy situations that happen when I forget something or say something bad. The other part of me likes my airheadishness because there is a certain level of freedom that come with being an airhead. The freedom comes from the honesty of acknowledging the pink elephant or tripping cause I wasn't concentrating on what my body was doing.

Society need those airheads who say and do all the wrong things because we get things flowing in a discussion. We are the people at the really awkward social gatherings who are remembered for the silly things we do and say to create conversation. (We've all been there.. used an amusing anecdote about that girl who fell flat on her face at high school graduation.. and the guy who screamed "OH SHIT" really loudly from the stunned and quiet audience, to create conversation at an awkward dinner party or work function.)

We are like the fiber to get conversation flowing in a constipated social situation. Added bonus if you come in a fun fruit flavour!

  • Everyone Else Does It..

I recently restumbled on Xanga. And with my restumblation I have begun to search out other people's Xangas and read their random ramblings. I generally start at the featured content and work my way tangentially through links and commentors to other Xangas. For the most part all of the Xangas I have been reading have followed the same vein of glib remarks and sarcasm. After much thought and deliberation, basically ten seconds on a semi-sleep deprived brain, I decided that there are probably two reasons for this.

Reason #1. Birds of feather flock together. Its a cliche. I know. Shut-up. Lets face it where I find my Xangas to read is not a very creative..  the Featured Content. How do you get on the FC? By my approximation wooing the Xanga nerds. You know the Mods and such.. those pasty faced computer nerds who spend hours trolling the vast wilderness known as Xanga making sure the pipes are in working order. How do you woo the Xanga nerds? By making them laugh. How do you that? Making fun of the big cruel world that shunned them to eternal damnation in a dark room behind a computer screen. Not really that hard.

Reason #2. Because there is something fundamentally satisfying about anonymously making fun of things. Real life is boring and completely unfair. Jobs are crap, school is crap, people are jerks. Life sucks and then you die. How can one grudge wanting to escape from that by creating a sarcastic bitchy alter internet ego who says what they want? I can't. If it gives you a buzz to stick it to the man by making snide remarks about how small the man really is. By all means go for it.

Which leads me to where I was going with this.. Everyone else is doing sarcasm, why can't I? The real point of being sarcastic and bitchy is to say that you have something different to say than all the other poor sods out there.
But if everyone else is being sarcastic and bitchy then are we really saying things that differently? One can only be sarcastic and bitchy with about so many topics before being redundant.

So I guess the real question is.. Am I being redundant by posting this post?

  • The Power of Words

All of my life I have had a love affair with the written word.

I devoured books, magazines, even the backs of the toothpaste bottle. I wrapped myself up every night in my blanket and a good book. Sometimes I drowned in my books, falling so deeply that hours and hours would go by before I was able to crawl back to reality.

But it has only been in the past few months that I have truly begun to grasp the POWER of the written word. The written word is the closest that you can come to a pure thought in a physical form. By putting something into writing your thoughts are suddenly physical entities to be used by anyone or seen by anyone.

A word on a page is infinitely more powerful that a word in the air because a word on a page exists for as long as the page does. A word in the air exists for as long as the sound vibrations hang in the air. After the vibrations are gone one is left with only the memory of the word -- not the physical word.

Words on pages can be distributed and seen by anyone. For better or for worse.

  • I've decided to respond to Pooj's comment. I am going to give Indians the benefit of the doubt. Its probabaly only a small portion of Indians.. Like ALL of  the people on my host brother's friends list. Maybe using netspeak is like their little act of rebellion against their parents. "We refuse to use your 'proper' english, we are going to instead really stick it to the man and use headache inducing webspeak! This way even if our parents do happen to read what we are typing they will be too blinded by their bleeding corneas to want to read any more!" Its actually genious if you think about it!
