  • Everyone Else Does It..

I recently restumbled on Xanga. And with my restumblation I have begun to search out other people's Xangas and read their random ramblings. I generally start at the featured content and work my way tangentially through links and commentors to other Xangas. For the most part all of the Xangas I have been reading have followed the same vein of glib remarks and sarcasm. After much thought and deliberation, basically ten seconds on a semi-sleep deprived brain, I decided that there are probably two reasons for this.

Reason #1. Birds of feather flock together. Its a cliche. I know. Shut-up. Lets face it where I find my Xangas to read is not a very creative..  the Featured Content. How do you get on the FC? By my approximation wooing the Xanga nerds. You know the Mods and such.. those pasty faced computer nerds who spend hours trolling the vast wilderness known as Xanga making sure the pipes are in working order. How do you woo the Xanga nerds? By making them laugh. How do you that? Making fun of the big cruel world that shunned them to eternal damnation in a dark room behind a computer screen. Not really that hard.

Reason #2. Because there is something fundamentally satisfying about anonymously making fun of things. Real life is boring and completely unfair. Jobs are crap, school is crap, people are jerks. Life sucks and then you die. How can one grudge wanting to escape from that by creating a sarcastic bitchy alter internet ego who says what they want? I can't. If it gives you a buzz to stick it to the man by making snide remarks about how small the man really is. By all means go for it.

Which leads me to where I was going with this.. Everyone else is doing sarcasm, why can't I? The real point of being sarcastic and bitchy is to say that you have something different to say than all the other poor sods out there.
But if everyone else is being sarcastic and bitchy then are we really saying things that differently? One can only be sarcastic and bitchy with about so many topics before being redundant.

So I guess the real question is.. Am I being redundant by posting this post?

  • I don't know. Are you? I don't think so. Everyone has a right to address any situation from their own point of view. What does it matter if seems to sound the same as somebody else. Even Shakespear said there is nothing new under the sun. Didn't stop the writers from writing did it? Besides you never know when that elusive spark of inspiration is going to be found in the mundane crap of everyday life. Are you redundant? I don't know. Does it even matter what I think? .......
