Earth Hour:
Google has gone all black for
Earth Hour even though they say it actually saves no money... and so I have followed suit. I actually rarely turn the lights on when I am home alone during the day, and I turned the air off even though the pollen drifting through my windows have caused my eyes to swell and itch, and the old nostrils to flare. I really believe that small things like this make a difference, if in no other way than to raise awareness of the need to take care of our small planet, to love it and embrace it. I know I am still a silly dreamer, even at 46. Even though I deeply love my dear cajun, timber friends, I cringe every time they say there is no such thing as Global Warming. I am sorry, I know the earth has been in constant change since its conception, but humans are certainly influencing what is happening, and wastefulness is wrong. There are so many self indulgent human acts that it is little wonder that our economy and environment is in the mess it is.
We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.
~Native American Proverb
In the News:
As I scrolled through today's news stories, as I usually do on
Saturday morning... to ensure deep, dark, depression, I ran across an
article about this man in New Hampshire who stated in court this week
that he sexually abused a minor because he had been sexually abused by
Big Foot as a child. My rolling chair was rocking for a good five
minutes as I rolled in laughter... oh my... what has the human race
become... even funnier, his lawyer says he believes him. Alrighty
then..., glad it wasn't my child he abused, because I know Big Foot,
he's from the south, and I would send him right over to put his big
foot up this ignorant man's ARSE! We would be opening up a big ole can of "whoop ass" as my loving brother in law would say.

Is Big Foot a sexual offender?
Personal Pet Peeves and the Passage of Time:
Small
talk aggravates me and as I get older I am more appalled at the things
we say out of some bizarre habit. I know I overthink words..., and I
really do appreciate that Southern folks make a point of speaking, but
don't say ignorant things. Say "hello"... it is good manners to speak
when you see someone you know. You can say "How are you?" but
only if you really have time to find out... "Good Day" I don't know say
something
positive. Don't bum me out with, "another day, another dollar spent"
or "one day closer to death"... say something positive... why not say
something encouraging? How much energy does it take to smile and say
hello. Honestly, life is short, which is why I have begun
to dread the end of school passing comments. Among the thing you hear
as a
teacher this time of year is "only eight more weeks" or something of
that nature. Only eight more weeks to what? Eight more weeks closer
to death? Mind you, I am not so afraid of death, but I am tired of
wishing my life away, I am not wishing for another summer, just so I
can do what? It has come to the point that I can't remember students I
had my first year as a teacher..., and I want to remember their names.
Each year I make acquaintances with 120 - 160 new people, and I only
have nine short months with them, and then they are gone. Yeah,
occasionally they pop in and say hello, but mostly that is it... as I
grow older this becomes sadder to me. I think of them, going away to
college, having families, getting on with life, and me getting older
and more alone. We don't know how much time we have, doesn't it seem
silly to wish it away. I wish that the day was longer, the year
longer, that I could have 36 years with my child instead of 18, that
the reckless abandon and wonder of childhood could last longer... and
that I could have more time to spend with my family and friends. Does
that make sense? I don't know, I just now that when I say, "OH BOY, I
can't wait until summer", I am wishing away more time... and summer
will fly like everyone before it. So, I am not in a big hurry for
summer, in fact I am frightened at how rapidly it is approaching.
Alas, if only I could have known... old people really are smart, I
should have listened more, and now I am in that conundrum, where I am
the old person with no one listening to me. Ironic? Yep... I'd say so.
Like a kite
Cut from the string,
Lightly the soul of my youth
Has taken flight.

Well, hear lies the mindless ponderings of this old lady for this day.

have a good weekend!
@CynaraJane - Yes, I remember well my mother telling me when son was little to savor the moments and be patient with him, because someday I would wish for those moments back... she was, like your grandmother, so right.
@pray14me - I regret I didn't heed the advice like I should have. I went ahead and wished time away in a lot of cases. I guess maybe we all do, more than we ought.
as we grow older, time seems to go by much more quickly & we realize many things we didn't before... &, of course, we're more aware of our mortality... as someone said to me -- be here now ... live in the moment ... it's a crazy world for sure ... kinda scary, too ...
You're listening to STYX .. nice.
Good ol bigfoot is the cause of global warming, too, didn't you hear? It's his fault, somehow.
I like the music.
hope ur eyes de-puff.. and i hear u on the how r u and all that stuff.. we r so used to saying it and we say fine when things arent fine cause we know people dont really want to stand there and listen to us gripe for 10 minutes. oh well have a good weekend. we are all programmed.. hahahahahaa
This is a lovely, thought provoking post. Your Grandma had very wise words for you.
I hadn't even heard of Earth Hour but we try to conserve energy all the time, not any easy thing in the frozen north country.
Hope you are having a good weekend!
@dingdongdingbat - Yes, I imagine with 40 degree temps that is it difficult to turn off the heat, and I must confess that it is a tad bit dreary with all the lights off. When Skooter gets home from work we are going to head down to the clubhouse where I am sure it will be bright and cheery, but for now I am content. We are going to leave the lights off while we are gone.
@pray14me - I just checked out Earth Hour. Sounds like a good plan. I could just go sit in the hot tub for a hour. It should stay warm for that amount of time. Have fun this evening
I am so with you on the small talk.
I enjoyed reading your personal pet peeve paragraph.
Have a good weekend.
I like your ponderings...because they aren't mindless.
I think that it is a good thing not to wish your life away...and I often feel that way, but I also think I'm just not in the right profession(and it's not because of the kids, this time either). I just don't think the program I work for is as helpful as they'd like to think they are, ya know? I see honest to God cases of neglect and abuse constantly, report them to DHS, only to be told that I don't have enough evidence, so they'll "look into it." It makes me so ANGRY, I can't even begin to put it into words. And part of me really just doesn't believe in this Conscious Discipline crap. But whatever, I guess none of us has to be accountable for our actions, right?
Sorry...you're talking about pet-peeves, and here I'm ranting. I do HONESTLY hope you have a good rest of the weekend, Tricia.
You are an inspiration to me! *nods head*
Well...the bear did his part no heat for 2 days ...and today he got a new energy star furnace installed......
I blame the Cave man for the global warming that changed the way the earth has evolved...they invented fire .....the wheel in which we got cars.....and they learned to multiply which in turn let to more people who ate everthing in sight.......
Have a great Sunday
The kids want to know if we can go ahead and turn the lights off now (don't have mnay on) so we can turn them on again when it's really dark.
I totally agree. I wish I would have enjoyed life more when I was younger. When my sons were small I couldn't wait for them to grow up. NOW, I cry when I think how badly I want to hold my little babies again. Time is passing by way too quickly and I wish it could slow down a bit.
I heard about Earth Hour, but I totally forgot when it was. It does sound like a good idea. But the Big Foot thing ... just goes to show you .. a lawyer will represent any idiot with a crazy lawsuit. Are they trying to sue Big Foot for damages? That is just ridiculous!
Enjoy your weekend! It will fly by before we know it!
Alicia
@DaBombMom2 - Yep, the weekend, like the summer is always gone too soon.
Gosh, that was good talk. Oddly comforting to hear someone saying the things I think besides me. I am praying one for you, too. Sometimes the dark can be intimate with so many others sharing your convictions with you. Fight the good fight...and sleep tight. Loved the music, too.
It'ss good idea ! .......
Mighty deep and interesting pondering for the day, Tricia.
Grandmothers are wise, aren't they? (Hey, I'm a grandmother
!)
Oh it's "The Bigfoot defense", huh? And his lawyer believes him???
Global warming: I don't know what's going on for sure, but I think something is. Regardless, it's a good idea to save energy, recycle, and do the best one can on conservation and preservation.
Thanks for the visit and comment. I'm not sure starting a "revolving site synopsis" was a good idea because I may not be able to keep up with it. Some may wonder why I didn't mention their site. I'm still kind of experimenting with Xanga.
~~Blessings, prayers 'n cheers
The Big Foot thing really had me and my husband chuckling. Some lawyers will represent anything for the money! Today my Pastor reminded us that when Jesus died on the cross, all of our sins were forgiven, not just some. He died for the sins of yesterday, today and tomorrow. Now that forgiveness doesn't give us liscense to sin but to know that we have victory over the power of sins that today or tomorrow we will be tempted to do, think, or say. Yes, look for a church that preaches the gospel correctly, not falsely. I"d have to call the Pastor this week and ask him to show me from what verse he made that statement from???
Well, you have the air on, and it's in the 30s here. So I can't wait for summer. Sorry. It's my favorite season and this long, cold winter we've had (much worse than in recent years) is really trying my patience. I want to go outside for a walk!
RYC: The pills I skipped had nothing to do with the flu. They were for migraines, and I hadn't had a migraine the entire time I had the flu. So, no, they didn't lecture me or anything. But now that the flu is over, I do need to go back on that medication.

I missed earth hour but see I'm still on track with Dark Sky week!
@JustMeAndy - Me and you both... however I kind of like a rainy day... nice to have an excuse not to do anything but peruse the internet and watch "I love the 70's" on VH1. On a sunny day, I could not condone this type of behavior or should I say in the British way behaviour?
Hugs, Tricia
@delightinginGod - Yes, I was disappointed as I typically like this pastor a lot. You know maybe it's like Reverend Wright... maybe he was just having an off day. He did quote a lot of scripture from Revelations..., I guess I feel like Revelations is sacred somehow and should only be discussed with fair warning that this will be the message. Anyway, I am over it, I just spent the early part of my morning thinking hell fire and brimstone thoughts.
@bastetmax - What? No Tamiflu, the miracle flu drug? Hummm... no wonder. I actually was weak for a couple of weeks even after all the other symptoms went away. This flu this year is really bad. I hope you will be all good before New York... are you doing a book thing there?
