  • So, Monday has come and gone.  I made myself a promise that I wouldn't leave my weekend post up for the entire week... that doesn't mean that I am going to say anything earth shattering.  It made me very happy that so many of you responded to my Earth Hour message, and let me know that you are helping out, each of you in your own little ways. 

    This morning on a syndicated radio show they discussed the death of myspace, and the emergence of Facebook as the new social networking site.  Xanga was mentioned as if it were ancient history... basically dead.  I wanted to call that radio show and give them a piece of my mind, but then I thought, no - we are like a secret, happy subculture that the rest of the world has forgot and I like that.  If you know me well, you know that I have a Facebook, a myspace, a Bebo, a Live Blog and on and on and on..., but no where else do I have the camaraderie that I have on Xanga.  I love all of you so much.  I am glad that the riff raff has moved on.  I think the cream has risen to the top as far as Xanga is concerned.

    Today was a pretty good day.  The kids were happy, my tenth graders started Julius Caesar.  Of all of Shakespeare's work, I probably dislike Julius the most, but it is required... I thought of secretly doing Midsummer's Night Dream or Much Ado About Nothing, but I don't have time to be a rebel right now.  So, we will stab poor Julius in the back, well, I don't know about the poor Julius part, and then we will read as all of those evil conspirators are justifiably punished and of course it will end as all tragedies - with certain death.  Yippie, ki ai ay!  Does anybody know how to spell that?  I left the expletive out.

    Spring is definitely sprung.  We are in the midst of scary weather time.  Right now,  it is very yellow outside.  Not sunny yellow, but eerie yellow... like to the East it is pitch black and to the west it is sunny, and I know somewhere out there is a rainbow, but here in the middle it is yellow.  It was about this time of the year when the tornado hit in Fort Worth, back in the day, when I worked in Fort Worth.  I miss Fort Worth..., yikes - focus Trish, really.

    Well that's enough chit chat... I may be out of town this weekend.  There is a possibility of BB King tickets... so maybe I will be at a concert.

    Spring is finally showing it's face in S.W. Ohio.  It reached 60 today.  I sure hope the ugly weather stays clear of you.

    I feel the same way about Xanga .. I have a myspace site and it's just not the same at all.  Xanga is where my friends are .. the ones who care.  I'm happy we have our secret Xanga enclave, here.

    Julius and Brutus ... umm .. "Et tu, Brute'?"  Is that right?  I hope so.

    I say GOOD!!!  Let the kiddies have Facebook and leave Xanga to the "mature" adults!!  I'm so glad the kids are moving onward and that Xanga is becoming a social network for adults.  It is a great group of people, a great support network and just a great place to be!  I can only imagine how boring my life would be without it.  I have a Facebook, too, and I just don't get it.  Maybe it's because I spend the majority of my time on Xanga, but this is where I feel accepted!! 

    Oooh .. I hope you get the BB King tickets!!  I hope you have a wonderful week! Alicia

    LOL... I have a Bebo too, but it is confusing to me and I am also on blogspot... but you are right the comraderie here is amazing... and it has become more so recently... even with the new gadgets, I find it is nicer here... very real and  caring!

    I seriously don't understand the overwhelming attraction to other sites over xanga but I agree with you. There no better people than those here on xanga.. I think we are just picky and don't let everyone join . And A Midsummer Night's Dream would be my pick but these kids have to learn to "beware the ides of march". peace

    ~Great Write!!! I loooove "A Midsummer Night's Dream"!!!! I adore the pic of the beautiful path....road...you posted!!! Are the dogwoods blooming there? I saw a few up in Savannah over the long wk. end...I miss the dogwoods in Spring...they are like fairy's lace throughout the woods. Sometimes (although the azaleas are blooming here...) I say the only way you can really tell it is Spring here~is when The Baseball Spring Training Camps come down here!!! LOL!

    I've heard about many of the other "social networks". I don't know how in the world I'd have time for anything other than Xanga, especially when hafta take time off from it. I agree, I treasure the "friends" I've made here. They all seem to be a great group of folks or at least my subs are.

    I remember Julius in H.S. English Lit. class. (English Lit. one sem., Amer. Lit. one sem.) We weren't required to, but my friends and I liked to memorize quotes & apply them to someone we knew. Our favorite was, "Yon Cassius has a lean and hungry look." We also liked to paraphrase, "Is this a _____ I see before me? Come let me clutch thee." The prof. for Shakespeare course in college required 30 lines memorized per week. Hey! no prob -- I was already into it from H.S.

    I hope you have a grand time this coming W/E @ BB King concert.

    I most certainly do remember you!!  How can I forget my fellow Cajun music-loving friend from Texas?!  How have you been?  I know I keep coming and going from xanga, but I'm going to try my hardest to not let that happen this time. 

    And you're going to see BB this weekend?  Wish I was going with you!  BB has always been a favorite of mine.  82 years old and still kicking.  He's truly an American treasure. 

    Well, its good to be back.  MySpace works well for my music, gigs and such, but when it comes to blogging, nothing beats xanga.  It's good to be back.

    "Fur Elise" - here in Enid, there was a music store, Jensen's, ran by Al Jensen, a very respected businessman and musician.  He once played oboe for the NBC Symphony while Toscanni was still conductor!!!  Anway, he once told me that judges at Tri-State (our annual school music competiton) got so sick of hearing "Fur Elise"!!  I found that somewhat humorous.  And as far as Beethoven piano works go, I prefer his "Pathetique Sonata".  Beautiful piano work. 

    One more thing...If I remember correctly, aren't you a fan of Mr. Domino's?

    @fingers83 - Yes, myspace is good for posting music, but not music blogs.  I am glad you remember me, and I am will do my very best be to watching BB Friday night.  If I am so lucky, I will report back. 

    If you come and go Steven, that is no problem, as long as you always come back. Someday I will come and see you play in Oklahoma... someday... that is going to happen.

    Fats Domino for sure..., he is greatness.

    I certainly agree that Fur Elise is not Beethoven's best..., it is overplayed, but in 1970 something, that is what little girls learned to play on the piano.

    To this day, I still think that young piano students still learn "Fur Elise".  But believe it or not, when I took lessons, I never learned that one.  As a matter of fact, I did hardly any classical music, very much to my disdain.  I'll gripe about that later though! 

    And God bless Fats Domino.  80 years now, and he is still with us.
