  • Here are the 2 test swatches I painted.  Stonington Gray and Van Courtland Blue.  I still maintain those are some awesome soap opera names.

What is cool these days (at your local Benjamin Moore dealer) is they have these tiny 2 oz bottles of paint, for like 2.79 or something, which will paint approximately a biggish square.  So it's enough that you can see the color, but you don't have to buy a whole quart.  Thrifty!

All blue, all the time.  It looks a big lighter in this picture.  It's a kind of greyish blue that sometimes has a greenish cast to it.  I think it looks swell.

I also managed to paint it in one small day, even considering I had to (a) stop and feed the children (b) get my hair dyed and my eyebrows waxed (c) get haircuts for 2/3 of my children and (d) actually make dinner.  (Pulled pork sandwiches = yum).

Here is the desk which Crate and Barrel managed to get here in 3 working days.  Dudes.  Fed Ex is something else.  It can Ready! to! Assemble! which meant it was less expensive but more effort.  It has an espresso finish.  So anyway, sadly enough, the front door thingie is all smooshed and wrecked so we have to call and get a new front door thingie.  But I like the contrast of the dark wood against the Van Courtland Blue walls.

I have to go make pancakes now.

    Au revoir.

  • Dudes!  I just checked the  Fed Ex website and Jacob's furniture is going to be here today.  (Insert shocked face).  I just ordered it on Saturday.  AND now I need to bust a move and paint his room.  Bust a move is such a funny saying, isn't it?  I think I saw a comedy sketch where they were always busting a move.  Off to rouse Boy #1 so I can paint his room.

    Toodles.

  • By the time I finally get out here with my laptop (so I can work on the FP website which is looking rather dismal) the kids dry off and go inside to do something else.

We have watched no Olympic coverage.  It makes us seem un-american.  Really, though, the tv is just always on FUEL tv or Nickelodeon.  I'll secretely be glad when we don't have to watch Nick anymore.

I found a really cool color to paint Jacob's room.  It's from the Benjamin Moore Historical Colors line.  It's called Van Courtland Blue.  Sounds like the name of somebody in a soap opera, no?  Anyway, I will go and buy paint and it will look super and I'll be able to say I got one thing done before school starts again.

    Dullest blog entry ever.

  • In bullit points:

    • Thane made delicious french toast yesterday.
    •
    • It was so hot we could not re-commence cleaning the garage.
    • It was 104 at 5 pm.
    • Everyone around here always says "but it's a dry heat"
    • Which still feels like you've just stepped into an oven
    • Or one of  Dante's levels of hell.
    •
    • Saw Tropic Thunder with no kids
    • To quote Jon Stewart "Tom Cruise totally redeemed himself with that role"
    •
    • The house is torn apart
    • sigh, like that's anything new
    • The furniture people are coming back to get stuff which I purchased for Jacob's room last week (against pretty much everyone's advice) which was actually NOT available in a full size, and no, thanks, I don't want to just bolt a hollywood frame to the queen sized headboard.
    •
    • My mom decided she'd actually take the antique furniture back for Grandma's house
    • Which is good because that means the furniture movers will get it out of my house pronto
    • And also good because I haven't had any bites off Craig's List or my newspaper listing
    • But also bad because I was planning on using that $$ to purchase the new and improved furniture for Boy #1's room.
    • Please don't tell me I'm a dolt.
    •
    • Um, Grandma's crazy neighbor, Eloise, was carted off to the psych ward at the hospital over the weekend.
    • She's the one who has been stealing Grandma's  kahlua and shoes and glasses and phone and anything else she can get her hands on.
    • Last week when mom was visiting, Eloise attacked a frail 90-something and stole her cane away from her (mom was there to keep the 90-something from crashing to the floor....)
    • I guess the last straw was Eloise repeatedly trying to put a plant on Chuck's head.  (Chuck is a family friend who was visiting Grandma).
    • It's kind of funny if it wasn't so sad.
    • I really hope I die before I lose my mind.
    • Ha, that could be any day now.
    •
    • Our garage does look different because Thane moved the 1/4 pipe out of his side (wow - we can now fit his car and Jacob's car over there!) and it looks cleaner, but that may be because we just moved stuff around a lot.
    • I have a six foot bookshelf filled with black dress shoes, which were mostly worn a handful of times, for orchestra concerts, etc. I'm seriously wondering who would buy them.  A family of Mormon missionaries who need to outfit their children in black shoes?
    • Note:  Jacob's $80 golf shoes he outgrew in one season.
    • Note to self:  don't buy golf shoes for boys who are still growing.
    • hideous garage 002

End of bullit list, for now.
