| | ~*~ Spring Fever ~*~
I've noticed several of my xangapals are experiencing this cyclical phenomena known as Spring Fever. Everyone has a case of the blahs and posts are dwindling, perhaps because there is simply nothing to get excited about. Its all so uninspiring. We're all sick of winter, of cold and snow and being cooped up for months on end. Unless you're one of those fortunates who live someplace with a year-round temperate climate, but I doubt that's the case for most of us...that's why we're here instead. Even though the first day of Spring arrives next week, any one of us who lives in the frozen north knows it will still be weeks before winter releases it's death-grip on the weather. Winter has robbed us of our joys and lulled our minds into hibernation, depressing not only our psyche but our thought processes as well.
Yet, spring is coming! As surely as night follows day, old man winter will finally lose his battle and be forced into exile for a few glorious months! We'll rejoice in the victory and dance in the sunshine and our lives will suddenly become far too busy for xanga posts. Such is life....
I challenge each and every one of you who find yourself in this conundrum to think spring! It's nearly here. We all know its coming. Now is not the time to allow winter blahs to beat us into submission! Fight back, dammit! Buy a cheap bouquet of flowers at the local grocery or florist and put them on your table, desk, or whatever flat spot you can find in your home or office that hasn't been overtaken by the piles of stuff that accumulate during the long dreary winter, and look at them often. Remember what its like to spy the first crocus, daffodil or grape hyacinth blooming in your garden, (or your neighbor's garden, if such is the case) and how the trees look fringed in pale green as they begin to bud with the first warm kiss of spring. Kick old man winter in the ass and tell him he's no longer welcome! Force yourselves to think about new beginnings. Buy a package of seeds and plant them in a pot in your window. Even if they don't survive until they make it into the ground, seeing them sprouting from the soil and stretching for the sun reminds us all to do the same. We all have spring inside of us, and its time to let it out! With all of us working enforce, we can drive winter and its blahs away. There is power in numbers! Our collective life force, working in unison can change things. And perhaps make it a bit more bearable in the duration.
I have high hopes for spring when I return from vacation. I totally expect winter to be gone (be gone, I say! damn you!) and the first signs of new beginnings taking hold. (As a precaution, I plan on packing as much sunshine and warmth as I can to bring home with me.) I, for one, refuse to let go of my last bastion of refuge against the coldness and the grayness that threatens us all. Who's with me?
Happy blogging. 2 days to go. |
