TALES FROM UNDER THE BUS"But I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell. I know, right now you can't tell. But stay awhile and maybe then you'll see A different side of me." ~Matchbox 20

Days of Future Passed

So......

I guess I won't be nominated for a Grandmother of the Year Award any time soon.  (Not that I expected to be.)  Aside from being the World's Greatest Procrastinatorâ„¢ I excel at nothing, and I'll be the first to admit it.  Sitting in a fast-food-smelly roomful of screaming out-of-control kids is just not my idea of a good time.  I'm old and cranky.  Deal with it.

The thing that bothers me most about being a Grandmother is not knowing if these future generations of my bloodline will have any future at all.  Who knows what the world will be like in 20 years when they are adults?  With the state of things today, in comparison to 20+ years ago when I brought my own offspring into the world, I have serious concerns.

There is every chance they'll be drafted into military service to serve in the war in Iraq, which seems to have no end.  (Oh, wait... that's not a 'war'.  That's an occupation....oops, I meant.....liberation.)  If not there, then somewhere else in the middle east.  It doesn't appear we'll be achieving peace in that region of the world any time soon, since it would seem that our leaders have decided that we need to be the World Police and force our idea of 'democracy' down their collective throats.  Or bomb the hell out of them if they balk.

Fundamental differences are not easily solved.  Maybe that's why our cultures were put on opposite sides of the earth.

IF the US still exists at all, that is.  As long as satan's minions continue to control and further infiltrate every government, including our own president who would be king, implosion seems imminent.  Slowly chipping away at our foundation of liberty and freedom, eventually it will all crumble away before our eyes.  (Are you getting all this, Big Brother??)

Or our grandchildren's eyes.  Or our great-grandchildren's.

Shades of the Roman Empire, 21st Century style.

Some legacy, huh?

I think I need to stick my head in the sand and stop reading the news.

Enough with this shit.

I've got to psych myself into Birthday Party Mode.

TGIF.

Happy weekend xangapals.

Happy blogging.

I agree that the world is a dangerous place and that advances in the technology of killing cannot be minimized, but I think every generation inherits a dangerous world and every generation figures out what they must in order to thrive.  And so, despite everyting, I remain naively optimistic.  Yes, the war in Iraq and the implications of that war are pretty damn scary, but you and I remember a war in Vietnam, a war which divided this country and threatened its future in ways that make Iraq look almost tame to me.  And I remember worrying that Nixon would declare himself King (or at the very least impose martial law) before he would allow Watergate to bring him down.  And before that, we remember when the Russians launched Sputnik, the first satellite, and we were scared that the Russians were going to control outer space and from outer space they were going to somehow take over the earth.  My son has lock down drills in school; we had A-bomb drills.  I'm not saying the world isn't a scary place for our children and grandchildren.  I guess what I'm saying is that the world was also a scary place for us, for our parents, for our grandparents.  Geez, this started out to be re-assuring.  Do you feel re-assured yet?  Delete this comment and go enjoy your week-end.

i can picture you throwing things at Ronald McDonald or Chuck E. Cheese... if you have a chance for a photo-op -- please entertain us! i've been telling my kids for years that i do not expect grandchildren & pointed out it's not an obligation -- having children is something you think long & hard about...& i ain't babysitting! & don't get me started on evil george w... it's a conflict, my dear, merely a conflict ... thousands of people are being tortured, mutilated, murdered... how many lives devastated? how can the man sleep at night?

I hope the birthday party lifted your spirits a little bit.  Let's hope our offspring and theirs will do better than our generation did.

I think once we get rid of Bush, we will all be better off... Of course  we have to go through all that political crap first.

Thanks for your recent comments. ...I really appreciate them. I should tell you that when I posted that "I dont like the way they make me feel" the context was the side effects. Those side effects are starting to go away. Some days are better than others. Today is a pretty good day.
Have a fantastic weekend!
