So, I thought, new year, new blog!  I'll be posting to this new blog from now on, but I will repost the last post on the new blog (so read it there).
http://bjc2.blogspot.com

Check it out!

Another new year

I'm so bad at journaling in any form...perhaps it means I lack discipline or something.  Eh, whatever.  Anyway, a lot has happened since May or June or whenever the last entry was.  We moved, for one - several times actually.  It's a long story, but essentially we signed a lease for a great apartment in the midst of renovations, which were supposed to be completed Sept. 15th allowing us to move in; that meant a 2 week lapse between apartments so we found a sublet...and then there were lots of delays with the completion of the renovations and we were basically homeless for awhile.  Regardless, we are in now, and have been since the end of October, even though the finishing of things has been pretty painfully slow.  All the little stuff is still not done, which is really obnoxious.

So, perhaps more interesting, wedding stuff...progress has been slow, but we have a place booked (did that awhile ago now, I don't remember if I mentioned it before).  Now we've been really concentrating on trying to get a caterer.  The bit that sucks is that catering is REALLY expensive.  And so is pretty much everything else.  And future in-laws paying for 2 weddings in one year...do the math, and it's tight.  Soooo...the last few days have been really stressful, as we figured out that the caterer we really liked won't really negotiate, and is not affordable unless we DRASTICALLY cut our guest list.  After lots of calling and headaches, we may have finally found someone who is almost affordable.  Of course, the almost means that Jon and I will probably have to pick up some slack, which will be kind of rough, but I think we will be able to make things work...probably with some guest list trimming, but not as drastic at least.  Save-the-dates have been purchased and will be going out very soon.  Whew!  So, that's the wedding update!

Oh, and I'm crazy so I'm taking classes again.  Yay for Penn tuition benefits!  Well , that is the reason I'm working at Penn...ok, that and laziness.   So far, so good, though there has only been one session so far - both classes are lecture once a week.  We'll see how it goes!  I've missed being a student, and it makes me even more nostalgic actually being in class with full-time students again.  Being a "grown up" sucks.

Lastly, we have a dog!  We adopted a 7 year old German Shorthaired Pointer at the beginning of November.  She's a cutie, albeit sometimes a booger.  It's nice having her around, though it does make mornings a bit more hectic, what with taking her out and all, since we don't have a yard.

So that's it for now...more wedding updates to come in the future!  And Happy 2007 people!

- I'm Alive

Moving bites...

Disturbed rocks my world!
"I'm Alive"

Never again will I be dishonored
And never again will I be reminded
Of living within the world of the jaded
They kill inspiration
It's my obligation
To never again, allow this to happen
Where do I begin?
The choices are endless
Denying the sin
My art, my redemption
I carry the torch of my fathers before me

The thing I treasure most in life cannot be taken away
There will never be a reason why I will surrender to your advice
To change myself, I'd rather die
Though they will not understand
I won't make the greatest sacrifice
You can't predict where the outcome lies
You'll never take me alive
I'm alive
I'm alive
I'm alive

Change again, cannot be considered
I rage again, dispelling my anger
Where do I begin?
The choices are endless
My art, my redemption, my only salvation
I carry the gift that I have been blessed with
My soul is adrift in oceans of madness
Repairing the rift that you have created
I am not alone, brothers, give me your arms now

The thing I treasure most in life cannot be taken away
There will never be a reason why I will surrender to your advice
To change myself, I'd rather die
Though they will not understand
I won't make the greatest sacrifice
You can't predict where the outcome lies
You'll never take me alive

I'm no slave
Are you feeling brave?
Or have you gone out of your mind?
No more games
It won't feel the same
If I hold my anger inside
There's no meaning
My soul is bleeding
I've had enough of your kind
One suggestion, use your discretion
Before you label me blind

The thing I treasure most in life cannot be taken away
There will never be a reason why I will surrender to your advice
To change myself, I'd rather die
Though they will not understand
I won't make the greatest sacrifice
You can't predict where the outcome lies
You'll never take me alive

So it is officially splitsville with the former roommate/ex-friend (haha, what a fool I am to have not realized what a bitch she was before! ).  Thank god that hell is over!  (Conflict on this same album seems quite fitting also.)

Moving sure is a pain though...and yet, we are looking at apartments again (we need our heads examined).  Jon's current place is just too tight a fit for both of us and all our stuff - no storage/hanging space!  We did find 2 places that are definite possibilities - one we would absolutely need a roommate for, but with 3 people the rent is great, and the place is GORGEOUS!  The other place would just be me and Jon, a little more expensive per person, but no roommate hassles; not as amazing, and they're still refurbishing it (due to be done Sept. 15th), but it looks like it will shape up very nicely also.  So it's a bit of a toss-up...we're looking around for people that seem tolerable to live with.  Complicated, but yay for Craig's List!

This weekend and next week are nuts: my department's graduation reception is tomorrow afternoon, and then in the evening is the College of Arts and Sciences' graduation ceremony.  Monday morning is the big, school-wide graduation ceremony (with Jodie Foster speaking - whoo-hoo ) and then I am officially graduated!  Duuuuude, where does time go?!  Anyways, Wednesday we take off to go home for a couple of weeks and craziness will ensue as soon as we get home also: my sisters are doing a joint b'nei mitzvah, so all the last-minute prep will be going down.  After that things should be slightly relaxing (as much as they ever are around my family!).    Man, I just wanna sleep for a whole week...that sounds like heaven!

A Change Is Gonna Come

Man, I suck!

I knew it had been awhile since I wrote anything, but DAMN.    This is just ridiculous.
In case anybody actually reads this though, I'll do a token update.

It is official, I AM GRADUATING!!  Yes, there was some doubt for a bit.  But, I am officially done with my undergraduate career - man, oh man...it was some ride!  I am still in shock at the thought of graduating.  It all at once flew by and seemed like it would never end.  Some of you physics geeks and philosophers should figure out that one, ok?

You may ask, So now what?  What does Joy plan to do with her life?
And I may reply, HAHAHAHAHA!  If only I knew!  But seriously, I'm working on lining up a J-O-B and all that fun stuff.  Going home until the end of May right after graduation, and the plan is to come back and start a full-time job.  We'll see how that pans out.

And wedding plans...well, they are progressing slowly.  Hopefully now that school is OVER wedding stuff will start to come together.  Check back sometime in June for updates on that stuff.

Oh, and I'm not actually listening to this CD, I've honestly never heard of it before.  But the title is oh so appropriate, don't you think?  Maybe I will have to check out Leela now....

So in case anyone still doesn't know, Jon and I are engaged.  Party at my apartment Saturday, Nov. 5th, 9pm.  Stop by if you can!

It's crazy to think about being a senior, and graduating in just a few months...it still seems like just yesterday I was a freshman with so man possibilities before me.  Well, there are still lots of possibilities, I guess, but also lots of loans to look forward to having to pay.  Who know what I'll be doing after graduation, but hopefully something that will pay the bills!  I'm sure it will all work out in the end though.
