Sadie has asked for an update, and though I have not posted in a long time, and seem to find it difficult to do so regularly, I will post one just for her!

It was a wonderful two weeks I was able to spend at home in Philadelphia (Willow Grove) during the second half of May. I was able to see my family, my baby brother growing up rapidly, my little sister playing the piano with a delicate skill I marvelled to hear, and my brothers becoming young men. I was able to drive again, and visit all my favourite places here and there in Montgomery and Bucks counties, my favourite coffee shops, the NJ shore, Philadelphia Old City, ate out with Lia, drank out with Lia, ate out with my family, ate out with friends, ate out with cherished professors from Gwynedd Mercy, hung out at the mall with friends at the Starbucks where I used to work, worshipped at Tenth where I love so much to be, and all those good things. The weather was warm, and I avoided rain (except for our one day at the beach:).

It was so good to get away from work at the hotel for a while, and everyday that I am back I look forward to the fall and the very great blessing that being a student again will afford.

Last Friday, back in Glasgow, my best friend from home, Amber, had arrived, and together we attended an all-day seminar arranged by Mark and Alana for the Centre for Literature, Theology and the Arts. It was an excellent day peppered with scones, jam, LOTS of tea, funny speakers, serious discussions, and capped off by a neat opportunity to visit David Jasper's home. Surrounded by his multitudinous books and beautiful daughters, we enjoyed an evening of finger foods in his lovely home on the outskirts of Motherwell, Scotland.

Afterwards we headed off to a hilarious birthday party for our friend Donald, at which I got asked out 7 times by the same drunken person:) Such an experience is certainly always flattering. The person in question has since apologized, and he is still a cool guy.

I think often of Kopel, who snuck away while I was home in America. I have not seen him since I left in May, and miss him very much. Whereas I used to spend so much time in the living room on the computer and talking to Kopel who always sat by the window, I now spend most of my time at home in the capacious kitchen where Amber and I hang out.

My week-long holiday to Poland is approaching July 10th! For many years now I have hoped to step my feet out upon the soil of Poland, but now that it is upon me, I stand a bit overwhelmed. When I look at pictures of Krakow, where I will spend most of  my time, it does not quite look as I imagined it would, though still beautiful, and I feel a bit thrown by how tourist-ridden I expect it to be. I also sit dissappointed that I will not be able to be there first with my grandmother, who I'd always promised to take to Poland. I am hopig and praying that this will prove a "scouting out" trip, and that Grandma will surely be able to come with my someday. I plan a trip to Auchewitz and to Nowy Sonch where my great grandparents grew up, and plan to send many postcards from there to home and to Auntie Bertie and Grandma and Grandpa. My tastebuds dance when I think of the authentic perogies and Keilbasa I will be able to taste! I can hardly wait!

For now, that is all! I want a post from SADIE!!!!! Let us see your new artwork! I am sor happy you have returned to it.

    After a LONG time

The winter monthes are over here, and though they were quite horrible and dark, the sunlight of these present Glaswegian days has been very effective in erradicating their memory.

Yesterday I made some curry (tikka masala with quorn!) and hoped to go out and enjoy it our lovely little backyard, but found our neighbors already hogging it with their guitars and friends and dog. For some reason I stayed inside. They seemed to want private idylicy.

My friend Paul from back home was just here for the week and his visit was lots of fun. I find I have changed since I left, and Paul is not so lanky anymore. In fact, he is making BIG bucks as the combination of his teaching and organist job. My friends from work (already a little tipsy after a round or two following work) loved Paul, and bought him drink after drink. All in all, he had a hilarious Glasgwegian experience, all dressed in his khakis and starched, blue collared dress shirt.

It has pretty much just been Kopel and me here for a number of weeks since Kara went away to be married, but in the mean time we've had plenty of interesting and lovely guests from Alana to Paul. I have been away to the south of France, and hope to post some pictures of that soon! But now, alas, it is time to iron those familiar black waitress clothes so I can trip along to work, to amass my savings so that my trip home to PHILADELPHIA in May will stand as idyllic and sustainable!

    Pictures soon! Cheers..

  • party THE WEDDING! Susan Gale Kent marries Justin Thompson--a boy from the south.

The wedding was so much fun! My sisters where beautiful, especially Susan, and it was all like a lovely, wonderful family reunion.

I am the tall blonde girl, two to the left of the bride. My older sister Ruthie stands between the bride and myself, followed by Marie, Emily, my sister ARI, Christian, and our little sister Ashley!

One of the nicest bits was being able to drive down with a portion of my family. Here is Wesley and I hanging out and being silly on, probably somewhere in the massive and expansive plains of Virginia.

Dad looks happy walking Susan down the aisle, but Susan beams with even more happiness. Dad, Mom, and I bought and arranged the flowers the night before, after the flowers Susan ordered fell through. I thought they turned out smashing!

Behind the scenes before commencement. Before the wedding, all the girls and guys hung out and got ready. Ashley, my little sister, was so beautiful, and is the spitting image of our mom.

Goodbye Sadie Koppelberger! Hasn't a whole year of life sped by with wings! Over three hundred and sixty five days sifted through our fingers.

Goodbye for a little while Kopel. Back in Florida, back in the U.S. and A.

So I am all alone in our big gorgeous flat. I am to host a lunch party for my friends from church on Sunday, and I still don't know what to make. My mother always made wonderful, gourmet dishes, with variety, distinction and all host of flavours. Even so, I have a feeling that these people will like more carb-based lunches. That is one thing I don't prefer about Scotland--the expectations of diet and cuisine.

I work each day at the hotel, and find myself very tired. There is barely time to get on with the other things in life. To chose a career, a life, in hospitality is a decision I could never make and keep physically.

Scary Croatian ship captain asked me out for drinks and lunch and dinner last night, and came back for dinner tonight, but I kept busy with other tables. I always see groups come in for dinner on their company, and wonder just how companies can afford these lavish, three course dinners with wine for their employees. That seems like some overhead that could be used other ways.

I consistently work ten hour days with only one half hour break. My legs can't do this much longer, so today I stole into locker room and sat with my legs up for ten minutes. My strength was revived.

I struggle and struggle to retain my identification as an academic. My brain is dulled, and in the rush and hectic pace of this place I while away the hours, I lose sight of my own subtley and thoughtfulness.

    Anyway, I shall miss Sadie!!!!!
