Happy day!!
Stephen passed!!
He's now a doctoral candidate!!
(Actually, I don't know if that's true. I think he has to defend his dissertation proposal before he can call himself that. But we'll just call him that in our heads, anyway.)

Congrats!
Oh, and I've given great thought to this (because my own Steven is is a similar spot...) I've decided that you can be called a doctoral candidate after you pass your exams (or field paper, depending on the program). You're called ABD after you've defended your proposal.
With any luck, Steve'll be ABD in a month and a day! Yikes!
