Isaac is getting ready for his big debut.

We've decided to have a garage sale the first Saturday in June.  We don't have a garage, actually, nor terribly much to sell, but I'm trying to get the whole cul-de-sac to do it.  Hopefully, half a dozen other families will join in, and we'll have a big block party/yard sale.

What does this have to do with Isaac?

Well, Isaac is going to have his first official bake sale during our garage sale.  This is a very big deal for him.  I told him that I would subsidize his ingredients costs for his first big sale only.  After that, he had to buy his own butter, flour, sugar, etc.

He has been baking his banana bread.  He's got about twelve loaves in the freezer right now, plus some mini muffins to use as free samples.  He's figured out how much it costs to make (assuming he has to pay full price for all the ingredients) and how much he has to sell the bread for to make a profit.

But now he needs a few new things.  He can't just sell banana bread.  He wants to make a pie or two, but what kind?  And another kind of bread, but which?  Apple pie?  Apple bread?  Zucchini bread?  Quiche?

What would you buy at a bake sale?

Please save a banana bread for me.  And I vote for the second bread to be apple.

Apple sounds tasty.  Pumpkin bread is nice too.  Isaac made some lovely looking loaves.  I hope his venture is successful.

I'm not voting on the other item for sale; I just want to say- wow, how industrious!

I always buy something to have with dinner that night ... so a nice savory bread might be good.  Or some biscuits?  And cookies to sell by singles and threes for the kids that come with parents would be a real money maker as well.

I agree with sonjaquilts--single items for parents with kids is a winner like cookies or cupcakes. Also, they're easy to make in quantity. I want some banana bread though; It looks scrumptious!

Following the savory suggestion, rosemary bread sounds great right now. But if I were a mom shopping a yard sale on a Saturday morning rather than a starved student dreaming about dinner on a Friday night...

Yes on cookies or cupcakes. Or what about those multi-layered bars (chocolate, coconut, probably some caramel, all on a graham cracker crust)? The only helpful comment I have on pie is... I bought a big bag of blueberries from Costco several weeks ago, and I've been pleasantly surprised with the quality.
What's the going rate on the banana bread? If you're taking reservations, I'm interested... As a cautious consumer, though, I'd have to taste one of Isaac's creations before volunteering reservations for things like apple bread or quiche.
Btw, quick work on the bean transplantation! I didn't expect the pot to return so quickly. :)

Ooo, great idea on the cookies!!  Mom, I think a loaf or two might make their way up to PA next weekend.
Undomiel, I hope the seedlings survive my clumsy attempts at transplanting and repotting.  Thank you for sharing!!

I would stay away from pie - unless that's where he thinks the big money is.  How much can he sell a whole pie for anyway?  I would go for single serve items that people can snack on - cookies, cupcakes, brownies.  If I came to your yard sale, I'd head straight for the chocolate ;)

And, if you're going to have tasty treats, make up some lemonaid too to sell with it (for, like, a quarter or something) in case all these kids with their parents get thirsty.

And if you're looking for more stuff to sell, I just MIGHT know of some folks moving several states away that just MIGHT have some stuff to give away. :)  I don't know that said hypothetical family has MUCH, granted, but I do know we (erm, I mean, "they") have a little.  Just let me know!

Oh, and I know it sounds crazy, but I like quiche.  I'd buy a pre-made quiche for an easy dinner.  Or a pre-made chicken pot pie.  Shame you can't do french onion soup in an easy-to-package and sell format. :)  I hear Isaac has really good soup. :)
