Strong Women, Soft Hearts: A Woman's Guide to Cultivating a Wise Heart and a Passionate Life

It's 5:15 on a Monday evening, there's a cool breeze blowing in through the windows as I sit here in a tank top and flip flops, and I'm drinking a new wine called Barefoot - it's a peachy, tart white zinfandel that brings to mind memories of warm weather and swimming pools and eating popsicles.  Needless to say, I'm loving summer.

Behind me are three weeks spent in beautiful East Africa - Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.  I volunteered at a children's outreach center, and summited Mt.Kilimanjaro.  I spent a week on the beaches of Florida where I experienced the ocean through the eyes of a 4 and 6 year old, ate tons of seafood and finally tried skim boarding.  I've been up north to Hayward, Wisconsin, countless times where fishing, kayaking, biking and swimming take up most of the weekend.  My best friend, Bobbie, came home from teaching 1st grade in Asia, and we immediately took up our favorite activity - sitting on the patio of a restaurant and trying new drinks (sangria has been my favorite so far), and laughing until there's no tears left in our eyes.

Summer has been amazing, so far, and thankfully there's still a good two months left.  But come September, I'll be on my way to Stockholm, Sweden to begin my Great Adventure.  I think that's a Michael W. Smith song, or maybe Steven Curtis Chapman, but it's definitely true.  I'll be living in Stockholm for a year and working for a family as their au pair.  We'll be in Thailand for New Years, and what is so crazy is that, in one year, I will have at least 6 country stamps in my passport.  Before 2007, I had never even been out of the country.  The Lord knew that I wanted to travel, and this is just confirmation that some of our dreams God gives us in spades, as Paula Rinehart would say.  I'll be working as an au pair for a family that loves to travel, so hopefully I'll have some amazing stories to share on here as time goes by.  I'm definitely, DEFINITELY nervous for this new chapter of my life, but I'm looking forward to it more and more as the days pass.

Keep checking back, as this is going to be my new blog spot...
