Orchids on the Grow...

Orchids are a funny bunch. Most of the ones I have are on 12-24 month bloom cycles, so I'm often taking care of them without any real, visible result. I'm happy to say, however, that several of them in my office have new growth going and I should start to see some blooms again soon!

It's out of focus (camera-phone), but you can see the new bud that will eventually flower.

New leaf growth is a positive sign!

The large leaf in the foreground has just emerged in the last couple of weeks. There are the starts of new buds on the primary stalk.

New center leaves as well as many new spike starts.

Ok, so not my most scintillating post ever, but some-days one has to focus on the positive.

@whonose - Indeed, indeed.... I feel like I should have an excuse, but I really don't. I'm just turning into another old, cranky solicitor.

I'm equally excited about the same thing...my office orchid is also starting to bloom, after having not bloomed in over a year. Patience pays off...

And RYC: My friends and TKTS...the interesting thing is there are very few of my "real-life" friends who read my blog...and that is by design. I don't want them to...it's not for them...and who knows...they might get talked about and I really hate to censor myself.

@AerialPJ - heh... I can understand that, especially considering the somewhat awkward and obtuse construction I sometimes engage herein.

i just had orchid heartache.  Last month my 3-yr-old orchid did it's yearly new growth with buds thing.  This time, the flower buds got really big and yellow (not quite white).  I tried to contain my excitement because it's the closest I ever came to blossoming.  One day, the unopened buds started to shrivel and fall off.  All 5 buds!  I didn't know whether to toss it, or myself, out the window.  Best of luck to you...looks like you have a steeper fall out the window.
