 THE SLIGHT SMILE

My Siva has slight smile, only Parvati can see it
her eyes are filled with her lord's love
they see not the days pass, in the rapture of love
there ia only the endless movement of their bodies,
filled yet never fulfilled, their love making is the final tantra
for the bliss is the permanent state, there is no end to Anandam
sun and moon never enter the palace, the mountains hide all
no one could hope to see the beauty of the lover's bodies
Ganas protect, the most fierce of all, Kali and Virabhadra watch
over the sea of troops they lead in the name of Siva
the dome of the palace yields cover as the skull cup of bhairav
holding the loving couple within, so close as in the mixing rivers
they are as the invisible airs, or as dawn and dusk interlaced
as hands held tight together, when the feeling of separation is lost
into the ecstacy of the union, and the sweat mixes merging all
enjoined, the maithuna is groundless and eternal in a moment
Siva's eyes are upturned and fluttering closed
the ash clings tightly to the sweats, there is no movement
yoni - linga form a stasis, Devi clasps Mahadeo in her grip
words are difficult ears for the sight of the scene, the intimate pair
so shy are they, is there something of myself in them?
that is the only way I may tell you this secret
for the lovers keep the silence deep in this mountain paradise
it is all the projection of the loving couple, always united in Kama
there is the flux of movement that is impossible to imagine
it is the essence of change, this is the motion of Devi
the flowers fall, birds sing to the songs of the gandharvas
the colors of the walls are always shifting, the designs changing
diamonds shine as rubies, then to emerald, the strength explodes
the eyes of the pair are so bright, their gaze is filled
with the power of illusion, they so easily manipulate in their rapture
the sound of the ankle bells are lost in the thunderous drums booming
the strings of the vinas are held in the distance by the singing voices
it is warm and it is cool, the breezes are shifting, coiling around them
the two are joined by the wafting of the breeze over the flower beds
am I invisible to the players, does not Siva see who is here?
how the dome of Kailas can cover the sky and palace, I can see -
there is pure excitemenet in the air from the loving couple, attendants
all seem to feel as parts of the two, each a partial projection of Siva
that is why they can be a performer in this interlude of maithuna
there is the linga and yoni, there is Ardhanariswara, losing half
to become as one with the lover, as the eclipse of sun and moon
or the spinning top that has inscriptions carved, forms new shapes
the slow inward and returning motion of the linga pushing on the yoni
the loss of consciousness and the returning touches the formlessness
only to eye the palace in its beautiful state of continuous change !!!
