Hello

Hungry and kinda lonely, I scavenge the fridge for leftovers, and there is nothing except for some strange vegetable dish that has turned a toxic green. Eeww. time to get rid of that one.

So, here i am, with you, in cyberspace. Sharing a moment.

"Hello World,

What am I excited about right now? My new songs for the next album. Finally, I've been practicing to get them into performance and recording shape. Its amazing how much we learn from recording ourselves. And with the metronome slave-driver god... that illusive click track I used to hate when I was younger - now I've learnt to lean into it like a friend when I need a kick in my butt to lock in the groove. Then, take it away, and lo and behold!, its sailing like a happening funky boat on high seas.

Its nice to be able to hear where improvements can be made in my playing or singing, and be objective about it, and also be creative with what else is possible.

I've also learnt to let go of 'whom I should be' - instead, to just be. When I accepted that, embraced that with all my heart, suddenly, all the stars started aligning themselves one by one to show me the way.

Thanks for listening and being with me in this moment. My friend, I'm going step out the door now and perhaps, I'll bump into you again. "

Love,
Shelley

Saturday 23rd, everyday surprises

The radio interview at KALW 91.7 went well - I had loads of fun chatting with Kevin. I'll find a way to compress the show to upload it next time. Meanwhile, come for our performance - 24 Aug, 8pm @ Oneworldwalk 1942 University Ave, Berkeley.

Nice Surprise

Tonight, I was escorted home from a concert by two men in their 60's on their bicycles.

They were so sweet! I was chatting to them after the concert, and when it came to walking home, they trailed behind me just to make sure I was OK, and when a car came next to me asking for directions, they sped right up next to me to check! So sweet! So anyways, yes,

mmm.. yes, Tonight, I was escorted home from a concert by two men in their 60's on their bicycles.

It shows that you're never to old to care and act with kindness.

Cycle

Life goes in cycles. You go on a cycle of being really high and then, unexpectedly, you go way down. Right now, I'm experiencing a down part of that cycle. And for the whole day, I walked, contemplated, soaked in some sun, breathed, and yet, I don't feel like I want to climb back up.

"Life exists only in the present moment"

I've got that quote from a book by one of my favorite writers, Thich Nhat Hanh, pasted on my fridge.

Maybe its good luck, but somehow, since I've reminded myself of this everyday when I wake up, eat, read, work, am on the computer, play music,  (my apartment is tiny, so I can see my fridge from everywhere), life has been extremely good .. getting better and better everyday.

1) Let's see... first up, I'm performing in my first music festival here in San Francisco - the Downtown Berkeley Music Festival. Location: Oneworldwalk, Berkeley. 24th Sunday 8pm, with the brilliant Az Samad. Free admission.

2) I'll be on radio - KALW 91.7. 23rd, Saturday 5-6:30pm, on the music program, A Patchwork Quilt with Kevin Vance.

3) At work, gigs have been picking up with both Bogofusion and Audio Art AV. There is more harmony and understanding between people now. I'm writing an album for harp... more to come on this.

4) There are so many wonderfully creative communities with their music and art salons (they call artistic parties salons here) to go to.. making new friends, listening to so many amazing people.

5) I love my friends. They keep me sane, happy and truly fulfilled.

6) New songs are coming to me everyday now. Its like a dam has been broken, and the water is flowing fast.

7) I feel fitter than ever. Am rediscovering yoga, am eating well and walking lots as usual.

8) My apartment is cleaner and neater now. hahahaa. One must count ones blessings.

So, maybe , just maybe, if you contemplate on the motto above "Life exists only in the present moment", all the blessings of the world will be with you too. Write back to tell me what you think this means. :)

Friendship

Many friends I meet here don't read my blog or don't know about it.. (I'm kinda happy about that.. no history, no past to make a judgement on, and I would much prefer actual interaction on a day to day then the great internet)... but if anyone stumbles on it, ... hopefully they'll get it:

Thank you for making me feel confident again about myself and letting music flow out of my body freely again. Thank you for your kindness, for feeding me with so much delicious food whenever I come over. Thank you for your generosity, for bringing me into your inner sanctum, meeting your families and friends. Thank you for opening your hearts and sharing your friendship that knows no bounds. Thank you for fixing my bicycle. Thank you for making sure I reach home safely. Thank you for the midnight jams and candlelight. Thank you for making me feel so alive.
