Currently Watching: Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind

There's something about snow.  I don't know what it is, but I've always loved it.  Maybe because it's a form of water & I've always loved that.  Anyway, we didn't get anywhere near as much as everyone thought (or wanted).  Still, it was very beautiful this morning.  I've done nothing in particular all day, which has suited me just fine.  Just a weekend to myself.  Don't get me wrong, I love having Cristie & Chris & Tabitha over here, they are the only social life I have.  But it's good to just be with myself, no work, no worries...just bad movies on Sci-fi.  I'm really starting to like Netflix...I got 2 in the mail today, so tomorrow I'm gonna watch "Latter Days".  According to the back, it's about this religous guy who falls for another guy & their relationship gets him kicked out of church & whatnot.  I can relate, except there was no relationship when I got kicked out, just the rumor.  I wish my life was as exciting as the rumors about me.

Oh I did do one thing today.  I decided to take my shower curtain down & wash it.  I found out an interesting little fact...if you put a plastic shower curtain in the washing machine...it will come out shredded.  I get to go to Wal-Mart tomorrow.  And there was much rejoicing----yay---.

Nothing in particular is just grand...and have fun getting a new curtain, I could stand for an hour in the aisle choosing on which one to get.

Hello Bill,

I put that on my site about a blog for Baptist because I think someone at work might be reading it and I wanted to scare the crap out of them.  Oh yeah, backbiting is really bad there.  In fact, I would like another job.

As far as Jesus is concerned.  It depends on the day and what you mean.  I am still searching and reflecting about it.  Do I believe that there was a man named Jesus that lived roughly 2000 years ago?  Probably.  I don't think that is the important part of the story anyway.  I don't think you have to believe in a historical Jesus *necesarrily*.

What does it mean to believe in Jesus?  If it means that the kind of sacrifical love his life was the perfect example of (as potrayed in the Gospels) is possible in the human form, then yes, I am a Christian.  If what naturally follows from that is that I should live my (everyone) life by following his example, then yes, I am a Christian.

Do I consider myself a Christian?  No.  What do other people say of me?  Half the people at my Church do (Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist on Kingston Pike) and my boyfriend does.  I would not consider myself Christian by the "traditional" or fundamentalist or "common" definition for that term and thus I do not call myself that because it would be misleading to the vast majority of people.

I do not think the "common" version of Christianty is "real" Christianity.  I know enough about the history of the formation of the official canon of the Bible to believe in its infallibility.

I have read books such as The Jesus Mysteries, Inner Christianty, Esoteric Christianity,  Adam, Eve and the Serpent (Elaine Pagels), The Gnostic Gospels, and various things by John Shelby Spong.  I find all of them compelling and beautiful.  Our local preachers move me very little and tele-evangelists are mostly repulsive.  I am also fascinated by Jung's notion of seeing Jesus as a symbol for the "self."

In short, I am searching.  I fell in love with a Presybterian Minister once.  Like most of my "falling" in love episodes I was not seeing what he really was.  He kept trying to convert me and what I was seeing was "Jesus"!  I thought he was Jesus!  He kept reciting Jesus's words and thus I started confusing the man with the message.

Its very interesting for an at the time self-professed Pagan to realize they were in love with Jesus!  Unfortunately, I have found no man to even remotely compare.

So, do you think I am a Christian?

Shalom,

I'm still wondering how shower curtains get dirty in the first place - shouldn't they just keep getting cleaner? After all. they are in the water with soap all the time. Hmm. Netflix is good, but not if your dog chews one up - they don't have much of a sense of humor there about those kind of things. Latter Days was entertaining - it's a good goof-off movie to relax with on a snowy day - just the solitude of not having the sea hag must be quaint and peaceful!
