| | Maybe it's just me.I freely admit, I'll try to save myself as much time & effort at work as the next person. Certain jealous individuals (read: Cristie, Jason, Chris) will tell you I don't work enough in that office to even try to get out of working. Be that as it may, I really do my share there, and I expect everyone else to do the same. That includes the doctors. Now let me say up front, I know they spent 8 years or more in school to learn how to do all they do. I realize their schedules are often packed with tons of decisions on patient care to be made. But my doc is steadfastly refusing to move forward on the electronic medical record. I'm trying to push it forward so we can become more accustomed to it & start getting more things done and start phasing out the paper charts. Yes, it is slow to learn, but that's why the schedules next week have been lightened so the docs can start using their laptops more to chart their assessments, order stuff, and either print out the scripts or fax them to the pharmacy. I'm more than willing to help out any way I can, but he keeps complaining that it's taking him more time to do stuff and "I'm not staying late and not getting paid extra for it." Well, I hate to break the news to him (actually, I don't 'cause I already told him a version of this) but when you are a salaried employee with a company, that means you do not get paid overtime for working more than your scheduled hours (at least that's how I understand things...if I'm wrong, someone please correct me!). Yes, it's bothersome when that happens, I completely agree...BUT when you're receiving a 6 figure income in this area (cost of living is a bit cheaper here than some places, but hey it's Appalachia, that's why) for working in a primary care office, even with that doctorate, then I'm sorry but I don't feel any sympathy because you're having to work over some to get used to a new system. And it's not like we have a choice in this new system, this was a company decision and for all it's headaches, I'm all for it. What this basically boils down to is that I'm gonna have to continue using both paper & electronic charts, which of course means more work for me until someone in the upper echelon thumps him upside the head.
