Maybe it's just me.

I freely admit, I'll try to save myself as much time & effort at work as the next person.  Certain jealous individuals (read: Cristie, Jason, Chris) will tell you I don't work enough in that office to even try to get out of working.  Be that as it may, I really do my share there, and I expect everyone else to do the same.  That includes the doctors.

Now let me say up front, I know they spent 8 years or more in school to learn how to do all they do.  I realize their schedules are often packed with tons of decisions on patient care to be made.  But my doc is steadfastly refusing to move forward on the electronic medical record.  I'm trying to push it forward so we can become more accustomed to it & start getting more things done and start phasing out the paper charts.  Yes, it is slow to learn, but that's why the schedules next week have been lightened so the docs can start using their laptops more to chart their assessments, order stuff, and either print out the scripts or fax them to the pharmacy.  I'm more than willing to help out any way I can, but he keeps complaining that it's taking him more time to do stuff and "I'm not staying late and not getting paid extra for it."  Well, I hate to break the news to him (actually, I don't 'cause I already told him a version of this) but when you are a salaried employee with a company, that means you do not get paid overtime for working more than your scheduled hours (at least that's how I understand things...if I'm wrong, someone please correct me!).  Yes, it's bothersome when that happens, I completely agree...BUT when you're receiving a 6 figure income in this area (cost of living is a bit cheaper here than some places, but hey it's Appalachia, that's why) for working in a primary care office, even with that doctorate, then I'm sorry but I don't feel any sympathy because you're having to work over some to get used to a new system.  And it's not like we have a choice in this new system, this was a company decision and for all it's headaches, I'm all for it.  What this basically boils down to is that I'm gonna have to continue using both paper & electronic charts, which of course means more work for me until someone in the upper echelon thumps him upside the head.

I never said you didn't do enough work.

I said you NEVER work.

Finding the EASIEST way to do the MOST work and look relaxed is an ART....YOU are an Artist!   Your Doc, however, is stuck in his rut and will have to be nudged out of it....Best from Chi!

6 figures is good anywhere in the US last I checked. Unless you're counting certain areas of NYC and California. But yea, sucks about the Doc. You'd think he'd be smart enough to know to change to electronic things. It's the social revolution. I can't imagine doing things on paper anymore.

I can understand both you and ur doc's thinking.  I get into my "comfort zone" and don't like to change my routine of doing things.    But when its something that has already been decided and will be soon implimented, then its best to start learning new ways as soon as possible.  Even if for a bit there are some later  finishing times.

Just stopping by: Being a Ludite is an illness in and of itself, and those that cling to the ways of the past will set up a future of discontent. Your absolutely right...put in time now and it will be quicker in the future. Finding charts will be a breeze. It will expedite everything.
As family member of several MD's I can say...little tears for overtime. We pick our future and man I'd rather be a nurse!

It's the electronic age. Either he gets with the program or hires someone else to do his filing for him. (Like my old biddy Dr. hehe) Unless you're already doing his share as well. :(

I love Robyn's earlier work, and her newer work is great too. Mainly "Konichiwa, Bitches" and "With Every Heartbeat" (my new perosnal favorite) And I think you're right about the pet thing.
