  • BIG WINNAH!

    Well crap.

    It's happened at last.  I finally sent some dribble into a contest to see if I have the chops at being a writer.  Like many of you, and by many of you, I mean the 3 people who occasionally visit this blog, I have ambitions of being an author.  You know the dream, as I do.  I wish I could make the fun little wavy noises of the dream sequence here...

    <oodily oodily oodily (that's the noises)>

    <<Hmm, which genre to do this dream sequence in.  I'll look around the room to see what genre... Ah, here's some random smutty romance novel, I'll do it in that genre. >>

    Here I am, the author.  <Yaaawn>  Time to get up, it's about 10:30 am, and I'm feeling sexy.  I lunge forlornly towards the kitchen.  Time for some morning biscuits.  Mmm, biscuits, then, off to work.  And by work, I mean pounding (and I mean pounding) out... 3000 words on my savagely handsome... laptop.  Ooh, you tease.  Then I'm off to hang out with...

    Ok, even I'm about to puke after that.  so yes, I did enter the Writers Digest Short Short story contest, and I won it.  Yay!  That's pretty cool.  Not bad for 6805 entries.  I just got off (whoops, sorry, a little bit of that pink writing still slipping into my words) the phone with the editor there and it's going to be in the May/June magazine.  Pretty cool, no?

    I do feel kinda bad though.  She really wanted to know what other projects I had going on, and with residency, I unfortunately don't have a ton other than a pant-load of random short stories, and some novel I started even before residency started.  So where does that leave me.  Well, I'll take it as a kick in the pants to write even more.  Actually, what I really need to do, as well as you other (both of you) budding writers out there, is to get into a schedule of writing regularly.  I used to do this, before residency came along and started having it's way with me.  So now I think I need to schedule time to be creative.  Mmm, that's some tasty tasty irony.  Ah well.

    Do what you love, love what you do, and start smoking crack.  Great words to live by.

    Har har @ the words to live by.

    I do what I love and I love what I do, but I'm not smoking anything.

    Congrats on the short story thing, I used to try to write fantasy stuff, I got about... 6 pages done before i trashed it. I'm into writing songs and then singing them while I play the guitar. *grin*

    @Red_foxes_rock - Thanks.  The good think about the story is that it was for their "Short Shorts" competition, so it really was not that long of a story.  Less that 1500 words.  You should post your songs on your site.  I posted the songs I made on my site, and only schizophrenic mega-dork nerds would like songs like that.  Oh, wait, I want people to write nice comments about them.  I mean, only smart, um, cool, uh, really intelligent people would like those songs.  Ah, that's better.

    You've arrived!  Gee - you think it would make any sort of sense to maybe, um, post the story on your blog?

  • slicy

    @daaner - I can't, they said i'm not allowed to let others see it until it's publish, it'll be in the May/June edition of Writer's Digest... You'll have to cross your legs and hold that pee until the issue comes out
