| GenuineI've decided the word genuine means a lot to me. When I consider how I deal with people that's a word that I really strive for. When I do homework I try to create a genuine product from me, not a textbook result. When I use things I expect a genuine well built unit, something I don't often find anymore. There's something to be said about someone who takes pride in what they put out, and I guess I'm trying to say that's something I value. Also there's something to be said about a company that makes products that have been around longer than I have. A couple of names come to mind that once did this, but have stopped: Ford and Chevy (how about the muscle cars compared to the golf cars they make now), Apple, (the Apple IIs still work just as well today as they did before I was born, a Mac now has a two year lifespan) Nikon, (I use lenses older than I am all the time, however my one new modern lens may not last through its 5 year warranty period) Crown, (they made amps that could literally run stable at 0 ohms with the positive terminal hooked up to the negative--most amps would overheat and melt within minutes if nothing blew up immediately, now their name has been blighted by the CE Series that was so cheap when they failed under warranty customers were told to throw the $400 unit away and a new one was on the way). Sadly every single one of these companies makes stuff cheap, plastic, and disposable now.
Is this progress?
I had no intent on looking into declining build quality prevalent today, just mainly in saying that I have an appreciation for things genuine. They inspire confidence when you use them. Jeff | | |
| My camera..againIt seems all I ever talk about on here is my camera. I guess that's because I'm excited about it. Anyway I've had it for a couple days over a year now, and we've been through quite a bit. I never came up with a name for it, but that's okay. I threw a few of my favourites on Flickr here though several of my favourites still reside on my hard drive, only to stay there. It's a true story.
Of late I've really been watching shirt.woot.com and their odd shirt deals. It's one shirt a day that changes at midnight. Sometimes they're great, but most often they aren't. at $10 shipped it is hard to go wrong, and worth the check.

| 2007I'm copying this from Megan. I like to copy from people who don't live around where I do.
1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?
I felt confident in the way I lived my life. More so than ever before.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't make any new years resolutions. I realize a new year is a great time to start fresh and what not, but if I need to change something I change it when I realize it, not on a special calendar date. I don't really live by the calendar.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Nope.
5. What countries did you visit?
I've just been in the USA.
6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
Decent pay for the work I do, and a good time to do homework.
7. What date from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
High school graduation. It was the close of a time in my life when I discovered I can be me and enjoy it, and others do as well. Senior year was a good time for me as Jeff. The date I don't remember, but the event I do.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Probably finally getting a car. In St. Joe you pretty much need a car.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not taking a chance on people more. I think there are a lot more relationships I could have now had I just taken a chance on starting them.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I spent about a month not quite sick not quite healthy.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
A car, and a PDA.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
I'm not really sure. Rob Schaaf for being an exemplary person any time I'm around him?
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
There's no reason to put these names out there.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Car, car insurance, camera, gas, Chipotle
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
No-metering photography.
16. What song will always remind you of 2007?
I don't connect songs and years. Just not something I do.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you: happier or sadder?
Definitely happier. I'm a bit more of a loaner, which I really need to get out of, but happier.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Taken a chance on people more. Seriously. Just saying, hey, you want to go to [insert coffee joint here] and talk about whatever for a while? can really change things because people realize you care enough about them to make time to spend with them.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Taking apathy to things that matter. For example I have a $200 mail in rebate I need to send in that has been around for a few weeks.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I spent it at my grandparent's for most of the day.
21. How will you be spending New Years?
There's a fair chance I'll be on a catwalk doing a balloon drop. We'll see.
24. What was your favorite TV program?
TV..I only watch that at work.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Negative.
26. What was the best book you read?
I read more articles than I read books. I did a book/cassette thing on negotiating that was pretty good, I don't recall the exact name though.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
No real discovery. I don't do too much music. I can listen to the same thing for a long time, so I don't change up my music much.
28. What did you want and got?
I'm pretty well set on things realistic. Biggest thing was I wanted a car, which I have, and I wanted more camera gear, which I have. In terms of non-tangible things I picked up a lot of head knowledge about a lot of things which is good. Socially I picked up some friends which is great.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Like music, and tv, I'm not much on movies.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I didn't do anything special for my 18th birthday. I don't really live by a calendar like I said.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Feeling more included around a group of people.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
I like to call it tasty, but that doesn't really describe it. Basically tshirts with off-centered non-symmetrical designs that aren't really big. Match it with jeans or shirts and add some tennis shoes and there you have it. Basic, consistent, but doing the job.
34. What kept you sane?
I don't really think I would go insane. Ever.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I don't watch tv, listen to too much music, or watch movies really. None of them catch my fancy so much.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Welfare and illegal immigration bother me. I consider them the same problem, if people weren't on welfare there wouldn't be jobs for illegals.
37. Who did you miss?
Taylor.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
Jaden and Arnulf.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007:
To let me shine. Be me around people, don't be so shy and keep my personality in. I watch myself less. I'm still very precise with my words and I mean exactly what I say (most of the time) but talking more. It's good. Jeff | | |
| One DownA few classes, a few finals, and I've got one semester down. College isn't much different than high school for me, I go outside every once in a while, and I get up late on Tuesdays/Thursdays. There are different people. Other than that it's pretty similar. The monthish off I've got coming up will be welcomed, but I'll be more than willing to have something to do again. That will be a welcomed change, I'm sure of that.
At work things have changed for me. I work at KQTV, and I'm the weekend director now. Things can get crazy at times because what I do ranges from 3 to 5 jobs at many TV stations. Here's my command centre.

There's a lot to keep my eyes and hands on at once. Usually I'm pretty successful, but when things start going wrong it's hard to get back on track. At any rate being a TV director as a Freshman in College is pretty awesome. If I can keep this up for 4 years I'll graduate with real world experience and a degree, that would be pretty cool.
I think my lens buying addiction is going to become more sedentary now. I currently have six, one that fell in the mud, and 5 that came used from eBay that take quite a bit of skill to use. I think next up will be becoming a member of the Strobist cult. That'll call for flashes, umbrellas, stands, reflectors, triggers, ugh..I don't want to think about it. | Is there a hill I have to stop at? We're going a different way.That car I said I was 90% sure I was going to buy in my last post, I bought that the next evening.
I bought a 2003 Ford ZX2. Since buying I learned it isn't an Escort ZX2, it is just a ZX2, they dropped the Escort when the Focus came out in 2001. Anyway, it has 33k miles, the zetec engine, AM/FM/Cass that will change sometime, some hail damage, and a minor ding in the front above the wheel well. The real kicker is I bought a stick and I really didn't know how to drive it when I bought it. I'm still working on the stick thing, avoiding stopping on large hills where possible. The first week or so I would have to turn the air conditioner off to start from a traffic light, then turn it back on when I was going. Haha, those were the days.
Ohh yeah, before I forget I found my car on Facebook.
That whole college thing is coming up on me pretty quickly. I'm perfectly content with that, but what I'm not too happy about is my friends from school not going where I'm going. I'm going to quite miss some of them. I think I'll miss David (KU), Jaden (K State), and Rob (Harvard) the most. Me, I'm going to Missouri Western for free and living at home. The goal: to graduate with no student loans. I have an additional goal during my 4 years in college, but for the time being I don't need the world to see it.
I had another lens come my way Monday. That makes 4 now. My liking of old lenses as made getting more far more enjoyable, and far more affordable.
I feel like I should add more, but I'm not sure what more to add, so keep going after Jesus folks. In the end He is so incredibly awesome, to you doing anything else just isn't worth it. In my life in the last month or two He has been rocking my face off, and I quite like it. Jeff | | |
