In your opinion, what is the most desirable quality in a friend?
"If you should die before me, ask if you could bring a friend."
- Stone Temple PilotsI am having a hard time finding the right word to describe the most desirable quality. Loyalty, Trust, Tolerance, Same Sense of Humor, these are all good but not quite it. Closer than a sister? Yes, that too. I am thinking of my 'bff' for almost 30 years:
It cannot be a similar lifesyle, for she married at 17, has three daughters plus one teen that she adopted who was abandoned by her alcoholic parents. She has been pretty much a stay-at-home mom. I haven't been married, no children, and have had two major careers.
It cannot be proximity, for we have been separated for years at a time when she moved to Arizona. Even now, when we are busy, it can be weeks before we see each other. Yet, when we do, it is if no time has passed and we just pick up where we left off.
We do share the same sick sense of humor. The same bravery. Even though this doesn't seem as huge a quality, it might be the key to the above quote. We could go to the depths of Hell together and be OK and even joke about it. So while I lack a word for that, "that" is my favorite quality of our friendship and why it has been lifelong.
I am a very lucky woman to have such a friend. It is one of the rare true gifts in life.I just befriended this Featured Question, you can warm up to it too!

"We Didn't Start the Fire" Billy Joel
My friend just emailed me this link. This could be old and already have made the rounds, but I had not seen it. Someone did pictures to go with the song. Kinda cool because 1) I never really got all the words and 2) I can see who he was singing about. I thought it was best using full screen.

Craig Ferguson is Brilliant
This is for you -you know who you are- (Thanks for sub'ing!) from "true blue":
He is sooo good, playing all three characters: Sean Connery, Michael Caine and Prince Charles. (click on links to see more)
I think this will always be my favorite skit of his.

Pinocchio
Y'all know the story about Pinocchio, the wooden boy who longed to be a real boy?
Well, I am so excited because a friend is coming back to (hopefully) take the Theatre Arts 'Main Dude' position at the college.
This guy is an amazing teacher. I didn't think so when I first attended a class he taught a few years ago, before he took off to Antarctica and Parts Unknown. Since I knew him before taking the class, I didn't have that Awe Factor that most students have. He would have the weirdest assignments and I thought he was a bit over the top and full of himself. Things like contemplating a piece of fruit for a solid hour, yelling lines from Shakespeare while holding yoga poses, and waiting a full two minutes before speaking at the beginning of our scenes. Well, I just went along until something unexplainable happened toward the end of the quarter. I magically transformed from a stiff, wooden, wannabe actor into a real flesh and blood actor. Not only that but everyone else in class did too. We all stunned each other with our final scenes.
So the college better hire him if they know what's good for them. I want moar of that shit please.
