• LET'S MAKE IT FUN!

  Yesterday I hit the floor running so to speak. One of my many errands of the day included getting Moma to the doctor's office. She called me while I was drying my hair to tell me she just wasn't going to be able to go. (Remember, I went without her last week for a consultation because she was so listless.) I told her it was more than two hours until her appointment, and too soon to make that kind of call yet. I got there an hour early so I could help her get ready with plenty of time for her to rest between dressing and hair, etc. Moma still didn't think she had the strength to go, but her nurse and I insisted since her doctor's office is only blocks away. Moma fussed all the way to the doctor's office but I turned her oxygen up as high as it would go and just plowed on anyway. She was so pitiful in the waiting room... just sitting there with her head in her hands... I began to wonder if I had done the right thing. PTL, they didn't keep us waiting long!

  To make a long story short, her doctor explained to her what was going on with the COPD and, at least for that day, made her understand that all her coughing wasn't a cold or "whatever's going around." He told her he can't make her well, but he would do his best to keep her comfortable. He gave her a B12 shot and something that is supposed to stimulate her appetite. Then he left us waiting while he requested some more test results faxed from the nursing home. Moma got very agitated waiting ... reminded me of a hyperactive 5 year old..... Just about the time I was ready to give up ~ in he walked ~ and my almost 91 year old Moma shocked us all by telling her doctor what a good looking man she thinks he is!  He colored a bit and I worked hard not to laugh. (BTW, Moma thinks George Clooney is pretty too...) Later in the car, Moma told me, "This is the beginning of the end. Let's make it fun!"

  Please keep my oldest brother in your prayers this weekend. He is having his 6th nose surgery today. He recently lost a good bit of his nose to skin cancer and this is hopefully the last phase of the reconstruction process. His wife has a blog: Diane_B
