| | I would like to comment on recent graduates' job hunting trend...
From news: a graduate turned down 6 offers from smaller corporations in
HK and she's still in her job hunt. She is hoping to land a job in a
larger corporation, even with lower compensations.
That's totallt nonsense and irresponsible.
It's nonsense because it's hard to be promoted in larger corporations
if you work for some very low-level positions (say, tellers in banks).
I just dun understand why college graduates are still fighting for
those positions in big firms. Many of those positions do not even
require a college degree!!! In terms of job prospects, I think working
in a smaller company is not that bad since one will be given work from
basically all departments. So you get better experience and that gives
him/her advantage when they switch jobs (partly because they have more
H2O to blow during interviews ).
It's irresponsible because... if you are not even interested in the
job, why you are applying for it!!! There are thousands on people who
really want to get that job and end up empty because of you!! You may
be the better candidate, but if you are not interested, just dun waste
people's time. That's selfish. I saw many people doing that... you
can't stop them from applying jobs, but well, just wanna voice my point
here. Just imagine when a smarter guy applys for the same position as
you do and he ends up getting an offer. Then he tells you that he is
not even interested and rejected the offer. So the company needs to
re-initiate the recruiting process. Thus the company and you are the
lossers and the smarter guy wins by getting nothing in return....
