| | Birds do it, Bees do it, even hyperactive Fleas do it
So, today is St. Valentine's Day, which made me wonder how a saint, formerly a celibate monk (one of three actually, no one is sure which), came to name a holiday famous for frilly underwear. According to the New Advent Catholic Encyclopedia, the day was already chosen as St. Valentine's, long before it became synonymous with edible panties and Duane Read. The lovey-dovey association came later. Folkloric tradition has it that birds choose their mates in the middle of February. And if birds do it, and bees do it, why don't we do it?
An interesting note is that we just passed St. Sebastian's Feast Day. It was Jan 20. St. Sebastian, pictured below, is the patron saint of homosexuals. Don't believe me? Click here.
