| I know, let's cut even more spending on education.
Every so often unbiased reporting seems out of place. I understand there are those who say unbiased reporting is a contradiction in terms, but I find the NY Times tends to do less biased reporting. Less biased then me.
Today, an article in the Times illuminated recent debates on whether or not the Kansas Board of Eduvacation should re-write its Science syllabi to include non-evolution theories on the origin of species. Here is the problem, the theories they'd like to include are: A) not science 2)not theories and iii)not really about the origin of species.
Yes, you've guessed it, this is another case of right-wing fascists (I was raised by left-wing fascists) trying to blur the separation of church and state. What is actually being demanded is that more emphasis be placed on the fact that evolution as presented by Darwin is only a theory, and that the Genesis story from the Judeo-Christian Bible be offered as a valid scientific alternative.
Is the Genesis story a scientific hypothesis? Is there evidence to support it? Is it possible to test this theory or any part of it? Let us examine:In the Judeo-Christian Genesis “theory,” God a.k.a. YHWH (pronounced both Yahweh and Jehovah depending on how imaginative your vowel usage is) creates all of the birds and the beasts in one day. In another part of the “theory,” YHWH creates woman by removing a rib from Man and then breathing life into her. Let us first see if this is possible.
If you take DNA from the rib bone of a man and try to create another being with it, you immediately run in to what is technically referred to as an “L.O.O.” or lack of ovum. This is not that big a problem. You see, prior to creating man, YHWH had already created both genders of every other living creature. In fact, before creating woman, YHWH first asked Adam, the original man, if he wanted to mate with any of the other animals. So, if you take an egg from another animal and remove the nucleus, you can then insert the DNA extracted from the man’s rib. After finding a place for the embryo to gestate for nine months, you’d then have a clone of the man. You would not, however, have a woman. The only DNA in the new baby will be that taken from Adam’s rib.
What does this prove? Eve must have been male. Adam and Eve must have been a gay couple. Who knows where they adopted Cain and Able from, gay adoption is still only theoretically possible.
Should Genesis be taught in schools? Yes, it is an important contributor to western literature/culture. Many creation myths have influenced our art and literature, some have even influenced Genesis. What about evolution? Evolution is a theory, that is true, but it is theory with substantial supporting evidence.
In all honesty, we don’t know exactly what happened to create this galaxy, let alone life. All we can do is make an educated guess, that is, if we can get an education. |
