I know, let's cut even more spending on education.

Every so often unbiased reporting seems out of place.  I understand there are those who say unbiased reporting is a contradiction in terms, but I find the NY Times tends to do less biased reporting.  Less biased then me.

Today, an article in the Times illuminated recent debates on whether or not the Kansas Board of Eduvacation should re-write its Science syllabi to include non-evolution theories on the origin of species.  Here is the problem, the theories they'd like to include are:
A) not science
2)not theories
and
iii)not really about the origin of species.

Yes, you've guessed it, this is another case of right-wing fascists (I was raised by left-wing fascists) trying to blur the separation of church and state.  What is actually being demanded is that more emphasis be placed on the fact that evolution as presented by Darwin is only a theory, and that the Genesis story from the Judeo-Christian Bible be offered as a valid scientific alternative.

Is the Genesis story a scientific hypothesis?  Is there evidence to support it?  Is it possible to test this theory or any part of it?  Let us examine:In the Judeo-Christian Genesis “theory,” God a.k.a. YHWH (pronounced both Yahweh and Jehovah depending on how imaginative your vowel usage is) creates all of the birds and the beasts in one day.  In another part of the “theory,” YHWH creates woman by removing a rib from Man and then breathing life into her.  Let us first see if this is possible.

If you take DNA from the rib bone of a man and try to create another being with it, you immediately run in to what is technically referred to as an “L.O.O.” or lack of ovum.  This is not that big a problem. You see, prior to creating man, YHWH had already created both genders of every other living creature.  In fact, before creating woman, YHWH first asked Adam, the original man, if he wanted to mate with any of the other animals.  So, if you take an egg from another animal and remove the nucleus, you can then insert the DNA extracted from the man’s rib.  After finding a place for the embryo to gestate for nine months, you’d then have a clone of the man.  You would not, however, have a woman.  The only DNA in the new baby will be that taken from Adam’s rib.

What does this prove?  Eve must have been male.  Adam and Eve must have been a gay couple. Who knows where they adopted Cain and Able from, gay adoption is still only theoretically possible.

Should Genesis be taught in schools?  Yes, it is an important contributor to western literature/culture.  Many creation myths have influenced our art and literature, some have even influenced Genesis.  What about evolution?  Evolution is a theory, that is true, but it is theory with substantial supporting evidence.

In all honesty, we don’t know exactly what happened to create this galaxy, let alone life.  All we can do is make an educated guess, that is, if we can get an education.

It's a sad day when we limit all other possibilities of life and prevent children in our school systems to stop and ask the question "why".  To question is a good thing it opens our minds to new ideas, I'm so glad I don't live in Kansas!

Wouldn't it be nice if we didn't live in a world where people were so judgemental and way too stubburn to even attempt to learn or accept something that is different from what they know?  Not everyone has to believe in the same thing, but it would be nice if people could respect others' beliefs, lifestyles, ethnicity, etc...

I learned evolution from the biggest Christian of a high school biology teacher ever. While he didn't teach us about creationism, he did teach Evolution as a falisty. The quarter pretty much ended with him telling us Evolution was completely false and that the answer probably came from the intelligent design of some higher being. What a completly biased class.

Oh, and the daaaate? It went really well, I'll see him again hopefully as soon as he's not so busy (which seems like it will happen when he's dead.)

Well, I'm beginning a campaign to force Kansas to teach the theory of Oz; specifically, that there is a land filled with multi-colored yet ethnically segregated and racially pure midget population surrounded by a Deadly Desert, which can only be reached by a woman wearing the right shoes and carrying a dog in her handbag.

Summer stuffings! I'm turning into such a kitchen whore, I'd love to hear some recepies.

November because Will is so busy, if we go on a date two its probably going to be a week from now. Or more so. It's finals here now though, hopefully I can make him mine before summer classes make him too busy.

Good post, me likes a lot. I had never before realized that Adam and Eve must have been a gay couple -- but you're so right! Scientifically, there just is no way that she could have been biologically a female. Maybe we can use a giant chain saw to cut out Kansas entirely, and then a huge forklift to drop it off the coast of South Carolina, where it can turn into a giant reef just like those old red subway cars. Though, come to think of it, those old red subway cars had a lot more use than the state of Kansas -- they might be offended by its presence.
