The Politics of Job Hunting

It's Alive! The store is live!

Please go to http://www.cafepress.com/sunshineboy78 to purchase your very own existence is futile t-shirt or other branded merchandise.

Look, I made him blue now.

Well, I'm back to seriously looking for a job.  I created a new, snazzier version of my resume.  There are no capital letters on the entire page and also, no descriptions.  I've already applied for a position I would really want - Copywriter for the Brooklyn Public Library.  I have wanted to work for the Library since I was a teenager.  When I was 13, I asked my parents to sign working papers so that I could work at the library instead of going to Summer camp.  Now, I don't need the working papers.  Besides being an institution that brings so much value to the community, besides being in a massive art-deco palace, the library is only five blocks from my house.  I'm not sure if it's possible to be late for work when you live that close.

Unfortunately, you can't lay all of your eggs in one baset, you've got to line up your ducks and shoot them into a barrell.  So I'm combing the listings for other jobs I can apply for.  Apparently, a lot of the craig's listers care a lot about your mid 90s politics.  They all want to know if you are Pro Bono, or not.  Honestly, I liked his music - but didn't really know much about his political career.  Does that count?  I'm very sorry that he's dead, it really lessons the chances of their being a Sonny and Cher Show reunion.

Another job posting, that was interesting to say the least, was headlined Adult toy party Co seeks writer for Manuel Development.  I wonder who Manuel is, and what he needs developing?  Is he a new toy?  Is he, perhaps, a model for a toy?  That sounds promising.  How is a writer going to help him develop?  I'll let you figure that one out all by yourselves.  If you're interested, they'd like you to call or e-mail your experience.  Frankly, that's a little dirty.

In the meantime, I think I'll apply for President of the USA.  Apparently, any idiot can do that job, there's not much of a screening process, and it comes with some great perks.

Edit -

I'm thinking of selling T-Shirts.  Here is my idea, still working on the graphic.  What do you think?

Do you have "plays well with words" on your resume? That's even more important than getting along with others in the library world.

Too bad your man doesnt' work here anymore cause those shirts would go like hotcakes on site.

Good luck with the job.  I would love to work at the library.  But I have worked within 3 min of my house and still been late.  It's a gift!

I am sure your resume looks great and you won't even need it to become president.

Solomon, get real—it wouldn't matter if your office was next door to your apartment, you'd still be late.

Pro Bono. lol! You are a clever one...
