There's lots of pictures here of the flooding at the St. Louis riverfront and above, if you're interested. I got to # 37 before I quit. If you've been at the St. Louis Arch, you'll be able to put it into perspective, I think.

Today's my birthday. I have a lot to celebrate. New me, new car, new attitude!!
I thank God for all the wonderful changes in my life.
I'm doing well. I'm getting used to my new diet. I have to be real careful about sugars. I used some juice in a protein shake last night -- thought that would give it a nice flavor. But it didn't stay with me. I read the label -- there were 23 grams of sugar per serving in that juice. Too much! It went straight through me. Now I'll have to check if there was added sugar. I always trusted that juices were the natural juices with no sugar, but my guess it that there's sugar added. Fat's have the same affect on me. I mixed a couple of spoonfools of cream of chicken soup with some water for a quick "lunch" on Monday, before I had an appointment about 1/2 hour away. By the time I got there, I had to use the potty. I looked at the label of the cream of chicken soup. It's almost 50% chicken fat. UGH! I'm learning to read labels better, believe me! As of Monday, I'd lost 24 pounds.

Happy Birthday!!! You will certainly need to learn to always always always read labels just like we do with the Weight Watchers program. Juice is never a first choice with a WW. Too much sugar whether natural or added and no fiber. The fruit itself is better. I don't know about that in your case though. Man, oh, man! 24 lbs already! Took me months to get to that point. lol
@TheSunnyC - I remember that, about the fruit being better than the juice, and I think eventually I'll be able to have fresh fruit -- maybe awhile for apples and the other crunchy stuff. I bought some bananas and have had mashed up banana, and that sets with me OK. I also bought some canned pears, in juice. I haven't tried them yet, though. Hope you're having a great day. You sound SOOO busy!
Holy cow!!! Happy birthday to you. Amazing that you can't eat sugars or fats...that they go right through you like that. Can you eat meat at all or are you on mush for now? I wish my insurance would cover the surgery, but it doesn't.
@butshebites - I knew that too much sugar or fat would have that affect. I just made some assumptions about some foods that weren't true!! Yes, I can eat mushy meat -- as long as I can press a fork down into it (mush it), I can eat it. I bought some of my favorite lean cuisine chicken meals, and I eat around 1/4 or 1/3 of it. That's worked out well. I opened a can of tuna the other day and took about 1-2 oz, shredded it real well, mixed a little cottage cheese with it. It was OK. I have light Miracle Whip, so next time I'm going to try that. The cottage cheese was too bland.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!!!!!!!
Thats a great present -24 pounds lost !!!
Youe doing great.
We would love to have some rain but no flooding-we had that last year !!
Sorry I made you write a seperate letter, Kiddo. I'm only allowed 10 minutes on here at a time, with these new eyes, and I had not read your entry.
As for the pictures, It's been on our news here for days and days too. THOSE POOR PEOPLE, up and down the river!!!
24 pounds is very nice. I am glad you are doing well.
Happy Birthday....young lady and YES read read and re read the lables ...bannas or fresh fruit is the best in your smoothie also they have a low fat yougert that is good .. 24 lbs is awesome ...There is sugar in everything......If you must drink Orange Juice try the one with low sugar then delute it with water.....I am glad that you dumped on the sugar...cause that will keep you away from all the things you are not sappose to be eating ...Keep up the GREAT work my friend...Hugs Marty
Happy Birthday!! I'm glad that your surgery went well and that you are doing well. Twenty four pounds is a lot! I'm sure it is hard knowing what to eat but I'm sure you'll get it figured out. It amazes me how much sugar is in so many things!
My daughter has a consult with a doctor to see about lap band surgery....I don't know if its a good idea or not.
@jeezelouise101 - The lap band seems to be more popular than it was a couple of years ago. One seminar I went to, the doctor said that US doctors had learned much more about it in the last year or so. The better thing about lap band is that there are not the side effects with gastric bypass (the reactions to sugars and fats, i.e. diahrrea). AND the band can be undone. How much does she have to lose? I have over 150 pounds I need to lose, so I felt the gastric bypass was a better choice. Good luck!
@martysrose - I've finally found a yogurt with no added sugar (Blue Bunny). It amazes me how much sugar, glucose or dextrose, etc is added to some foods -- no wonder we have a large population of overweight people!
@GrannyKnowz - My energy level is coming back from the surgery, and I don't think I'll have a problem with energy level from the diet. They tell us to try to have at least 60 grams of protein a day, so I think that helps with the energy level. I'm going to start an exercise routine on a recumbent bike, so hopefully that will help, too.
@sweet_moonchild - She probably needs to lose at least 150....maybe more. This has been a real problem for her for a long time now. I just hope she makes the right decision. Thanks for the info!
Blue bunny will be your friend...also when you advance to other things in your diet I put granola in mine and when I can't have a bowl movement I put some flax seed it helps ....Good luck my friend....
I am waiting to see my surgeon for my new event bariatic surgery, I am jumping though the hoops and did a lot of pretesting. glad I found you, would enjoy see whats happening with yours. yes 24 grams of sugar if you ate that surely you would have a dumping episode. Congrats on the 24 pounds.
Thanks for stopping by my site. Good for you taking care of your health!! I'm on Weight Watchers for the millionth zillionth time, maybe I will get to my goal. Take care, stay dry.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!!!!!!
I apologize for being a little late with the birthday wishes but I just wish you the very best of days and a wonderful year ahead.
You are really off to a great start...24 lbs..Fabulous. Keep it up.
I know. I seldom do have even the 100% "pure" juice. Northland is my favorite. I usually dilute it with herbal tea. That works pretty good ...than there isn't that much sugar.
We've been to the arch. An awesome, but scary experience. I was stressed while going up and down since I wondered what would happen if we got stuck....silly me. Obviously we made it safe and sound.
Glad your feeling better and getting on the road to good health--My sons wife had lap band surgery--shes lost a lot but she had a lot of trouble with it too.
RYC--Im glad to know my Mom isnt the only one who discusses her "bowel Habits"--Most time I just look around and act like I dont know her !!!
Thanks for the visit, and Happy Belated Birthday!
I do hope you had a very happy birthday. I guess you have learned that you do have to read those labels, or suffer the consequenses. That weight is just dropping off of you. Are you feeling well?
