  • Goodbye to Thimbles

Today, we had a tearful goodbye to a loved bunny member of the family...

Thimbles was my oldest daughter's little baby bunny given to her by Santa Claus in 2005.  Her name was Thimbles because my daughter was a big fan of Peter Pan and the Thimble was a symbol of Love.  She was a light orangish brown bunny and was loved by all the kids and her sister Button.  Her sister Button is missing her very much right now and has never lived alone without Thimbles so we are very worried about her.  She has finally tonight started to eat a little bit, but this afternoon would only sit which is unlike her.  We will pamper sweet Button for the next few days.

Daddy dug a big hole (which is quite a feat in our hard cold ground) and we buried her when the kids got home from school.  We made a cross out of sticks and Thimble's twine she used to chew.  The neighbor's daughter came over and we each got to say goodbye...except for Sarah (Princess S) who just cried.  Seeing Sarah sad made everyone feel really sad too.  Well, Carter said he loved Thimbles and that was so sweet, but then proceeded to say he wasn't sad when Daddy said we were all sad...he barely gets it.

    So we say Goodbye!!

What a sweet bunny.  So sorry for Sarah's loss.  It is so hard when you lose a loved pet.  Thank you for sharing this with us.  I am sure Thimbles is in "pet heaven" with Grover my yorkie terrier that I had for 14 years.  Will also be thinking about Button...

It is so sad when a child loses a pet.  Thankfully, I never went through that.  I do remember when I was a teenager, and we drove from Tucson up to the Grand Canyon.  On the way Dad tried to avoid a gopher that ran across the road, but hit him anyway.  I looked out the back window and saw the poor thing dead in the road, and I cried for miles and miles.  Poor Dad felt so badly!!  I told him I knew it wasn't his fault, but I hadn't seen anything like that happen before!  The 50's certainly were different times from now!!

Aww.  I'm sorry.  I've lost a few family pet members and it's almost as hard as losing a human family member if not as hard.  Your daughter and Buttons will get through this with support, compassion and love.  As will the others that feel saddened by this.  Sending prayers your family's way.

My pet cat was named Thimble.  We had her for 13 years.  I came home from college and when I didn't see her I knew why without asking.  I'm so sorry for Sarah's loss too.  I had to smile at Carter's response/reply though.  Love this pic.

When I was a kid, I always wanted my rabbits to live forever.

    This is a beautiful entry.
