    So here I am at an ungodly late hour in the morning, I should be in bed but I am really not tired yet and I have the desire to ramble for a bit...
    My semester is off to a good, but busy start.  I am taking a full 18 credit course load with five main classes, and two one credit classes.  Let me emphasize how excited I am when I found out that a certain person many of us know is coming here in the fall!  Such a smart person in making the choice to come here!  Congratulations to her indeed!

    So tonight I am pretty upset that my right handed record in ping pong has fallen to 21-27.  Although I did improve to an 8-7 advantage left handed.  I think I shall start serving right handed, and volleying left handed...
    And Zoolander is just the movie to watch when you need to laugh for a bit!

    I got to hear a bagpipe concert on campus tonight with a bunch of friends.  I really enjoyed hearing the music and watching some traditional Irish folk dancing.  Never a shortage of interesting things to do at Hillsdale.  We are such a diverse campus celebrating the Irish culture.  Maybe we should have an Asian culture awareness weekend sometime...

    On a serious note, at the concert tonight, a four part harmony of bagpipes, drums, keyboard, and bass guitar played the hymn "Abide with me", one that is very familiar to me.  Although the song relates well to Christians in their time of suffering, I find the words some of the most beautiful in the psalter.  The power found in the verses remind the Christian of the conquering act of Christ over our most powerful enemy of sin and death.

    Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
    The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.
    When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
    Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

    Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day;
    Earth’s joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
    Change and decay in all around I see;
    O Thou who changest not, abide with me

    I need Thy presence every passing hour.
    What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s power?
    Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be?
    Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

    I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
    Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.
    Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
    I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.

    Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
    Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
    Heaven’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee;
    In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.
