| | THIS IS WHY I STOPPED WATCHING THE NEWS
After OJ, I decided that the "news", in its present form, was no longer
useful to me, or anyone else, for that matter. I'm not sure what
has brought this evil back into my life, but I suspect that having only
four channels has something to do with it.
For those of you who live under a rock, and perhaps I envy you, the
United States Congress has decided it is in all of our best interests
that they intervene in a Florida case involving Terri Schiavo,
a woman living in a vegetative state for the past 15 years, and her
husband's struggle to allow her to carry out her wishes of dying with
dignity.
This intensely personal matter is now worldwide news fodder, and has
usurped countless hours of emergency sessions in Congress - at your (and
my) expense. Forget for a moment that we are trillions of dollars
in debt, spending billions of dollars in a sandlot thousands of miles
away in a fraudulent war and that gasoline prices have, and continue to
skyrocket, with no end in sight.
I guess if I were leading the "greatest country on Earth" and I was
from the one state responsible for the most executions and some of the
poorest education, I'd sure lead the charge to intervene into as many
personal, private family matters as humanly possible. After all,
who says the Republicans are the party of less government? Oh, that's right, they do.
I, for one, will be calling my Congressional representatives tomorrow to voice my disgust. I urge you to do the same.
And should any of you decide that you don't want to be the next Terri, I suggest you check into a living will. It may seem morbid, but it's the best defense you'll have against those zealots in the U.S. Congress.
By the by, in case there is any question, please pull my plug - if I can't watch the news, what reason have I to live?
