Several days, and million of previously useful brain cells ago, I had an idea for a new reality television show, which I immediately e-mailed to my most trusted advisor - Carolyn to my Donald - David.

I called the show "Be My Friend" and it was a contest to, well, be my friend. I suggested that perhaps, as the object of the show, I could be supplanted by someone more interesting like Courtney Love or Diana Vreeland.

David's response was a suggestion that perhaps I should rework the name of the show. His idea: "You've Won Something You Didn't Want!" David likes exclamation points, not unlike Elaine Benes.

I'd try to compete, but Courtney would intimidate me. I adore exclamation points as well, especially when they're unneccessarily repeated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did I mention my favorite Schoolhouse Rock video is "Interjections!"?

It's really only in the titles of things that I'm particularly fond of exclamation points, like Oliver! and Oh, Calcutta!.

Also, I'm reminded of a Sprockets skit from SNL - you know, it's the skit that inspired my genre-shaking short subject film, No Apples For Easter - wherein Dieter has a dream sequence starting with "He loves me, he loves my caribou!" and moves on to a limo where he meets a woman who, when asked her name, claims, "I do not have a Christian name. I am called exclahhhmation point."

Now that I think about it, I just ripped off that skit entirely. I'm sad.
