  • hijacked...

someone hijacked my debit card details and have booked themselves a flight to ireland in my name....

Thank the gods that expedia were on the ball and phoned to confirm whether i purchased the flights or not.....the dillweeds that bought the tickets thought that they were being clever by transposing the last two digits of my phone number and it must have flagged something up on the system when the payment went through...causing him to ring me and enquire whether i actually did book the flights for phillip adams, martin adams and myself....uhm no...i don't even know anyone by those names...

this of course causes me great concern, because it's not like it's a credit card, but it's my bank card which access my illusionary real money...
so after calling the bank and cancelling the card, i wake up this morning having dreamed that they also used my card at tesco's  and spent £42.90....so this morning I got my bank statement out that i got earlier in the week and hadn't opened yet, and i see that the very last entry is a tesco mobile phone top-up purchase for £29.00 from 2 weeks ago...well i don't even shop at tesco in the first place, and i certainly don't have a phone with them...so they have essentually had my bank details, address, phone number etc...for the last 2 weeks...i am very thankful that they didn't wipe out my bank account....they must be daft or i am very lucky.

now of course since this happened on a thursday night, I am going to have to wait until at least wednesday before those transaction clear my bank account and only then can i claim fraudulant use.....which seems backasswards to me....if the transactions haven't cleared, why can't they just prevent them from clearing in the first place??? why do i have to wait until they take my money away to then apply and hopefully get it back?? i hate my bank.

the worst of it is that i have no idea how they could have got ahold of my details in the first place since i meticulously shred everything...even put it in different rubbish bags....i know about and am wise not to give out my details in phishing scams and only make purchases online through reputable dealers...

    i just feel violated, really......

  • went to a flickrmeet last weekend and that was a ton of fun..flickrmeets are probably a lot like xangameets only with a bunch of cameras..this particular flickrmeet was the annual UK flickrmeet...every year they have it in a different location..this was the 3rd one (the first i've been to) and it was in nottingham, so the nottingham flickrgroup did all the hosting and preperations and i have to say it was a really great day out...i met some really cool people and also got to photograph some stuff in nottingham that i hadn't come across before...we also got pretty much free reign of the council house which was very cool because i've never been in there before! they've got a massive ballroom that was designed based on the hall of mirrors in the palace of versailles.... you can see some of my photos of the council house and other bits of nottingham on my flickr site, of course!

i haven't been very social in the last couple of years, but i'm hoping to be more social this year....it's actually quite fun hanging out with people...

Tuesday is the hubby and my 8th anniversary! it doesn't seem that it's been that long....so tomorrow we are going to go out and celebrate! looking forward to it, as it's not very often that the two of us get to go out on our own...but cera's friend always has her birthday party on the same weekend as our anniversary since her birthday is only a couple of days before it, and cera usually gets to stay over night there, so it works out nicely!
I have no idea what we're going to do...we were hoping to catch a movie, but there never seems to be anything good out at the cinemas this particular week...so who knows! we'll just have to wait and see!

well that's about it for me right now! have a great weekend everyone!

  • idiots part 2

Well, when it happened, i didn't realize what the bloke was actually up to.....yes, he had moved some stuff around, but it didn't appear that anything was missing, so i figured that he was either attempting to take something, or casing the house to come back later and take something...
but the other night i was outside leaning against the back wall waiting for the bbq to heat up and i turned my head to the left....it was then that i saw exactly what this guy was doing at our house.....

He cut the copper pipe that comes out of our boiler and through the wall...well he didn't just cut it, but he took it as well...you see, the boiler (which heats our house and water) is on the other side of the back wall in a closet under our stairs next to the kitchen....the pipes come out of the boiler and then go through a hole in the wall, where they carry on outside...now if this jerk would have cut the gas pipe or the water pipe, we'd have been in some serious trouble....but thankfully, the one that he took appears to be an overflow pipe or something, but the boiler still works...there's no gushing water outside, and i can't smell any gas...
    unbelievable...

in other news, i recently got a couple of photographs published in a free local artsy newspaper called the left lion....here is one of the photos that they published.

  • idiots

some idiot tried to break into our house last night...or who knows what he was doing.....whether he was trying to break in, look in, or steal the bbq, who knows.....but it was about 8:30 last night and we were sitting in the living room watching Holby Blue (a police drama) and i heard a noise out back, and i said to dan "what was that?" and he said he didn't know and looked out the window and there was a guy in a hoodie out there...dan opened the window and said "oi...what are you playing at?!" and the guy just walked off..jumped over our gate (since we have it locked with a bicycle chain) and continued walking away......i went outside to look and several things that had been up against the back of the house had been moved...the BBQ, a box with some plants on it and some bamboo poles...one of which was now lying leaning on the back window.....so we had to get the police around, but of course even though they already had 2 unmarked cars in the area and a marked car that showed up after we called, they weren't able to find anyone.....we've never really had many problems with intruders all the while we've lived there, but in the last few months, the neighbors on both sides of us have been burgled or at least attempted to be burgled...one of them they broke in by kicking in the bottom panel of the back door and then letting themselves in that way....the other, someone knocked down the fence between our house and theres, and a week before that, they knocked down the fence on the other side of his yard....it's getting a bit rediculous....and we must not be the only ones having trouble with burglars if they had 2 cars (with members of the burglary squad in them) patrolling the area...but i guess they need to patrol it a bit better!

in other news, no luck in the house hunting yet!! just haven't found anything in our budget, sadly.....but at least the landlord hasn't said any more about selling the house yet...so there's still no pressure at the moment....

last week i managed to get a road trip in to the lovely little spa town called buxton in the derbyshire peak district...the weather went back and forth between being lovely, bright and warm to suddenly be snowing like mad! it was a great day out and we did quite a bit of walking around and also visited a really cool cave called Poole's Cavern....well worth the trek! I've been posting some photos of the trip on my flickr account, so feel free to have a look! in the meanwhile, here is a photo of a miniature railway/train that runs through one of the parks! it was quite a fun little ride!
