| This Is How I Disappear25th OCTOBER 2008 VIENNESE BALL KUALA LUMPUR 2008 Kuala Lumpur Convention Center Ballroom
Here is the account from Debutante-QueenB-Procrastinator, Sasha. This is my blog, and this is how I report it. What pissed me off was the fact that I spent THREE HOURS typing everything (multitasking) and Firefox decided to crash at the very last minute (yesterday) - just as I was about to publish this. Oh My Gawd! *screams* And I did not save the entry ... *bitch mood* In addition to that, it was SO HARD to get my Xanga to load. Damn it, Technology! I gave up and went to bed. Hey! A lot of hard work put into writing that entry, as I organized it in timeline style. *curses* I swear, that spoiled my day.
Despite feeling uber reluctant to write everything from scratch, I had to force myself to do so because this is one event/memory I would like to preserve FOR LIFE! Xanga, please don't crash!
0800 HOURS Forcing myself to wake up early every morning has become a daily routine for me. It does not help that I go to bed wee hours in the morning too. But I had to pack. I decided to chuck everything into a luggage bag for convenience's sake. This is actually really handy for last minute packers, trust me.
1000 HOURS I lugged my luggage bag and gown out of the house and headed for Summit to do some last minute purchases for the ball. Sadly, NO HAIRPINS *Gasps* Thank god Suria KLCC is next to the convention center. Went to Cut & Blow in SS14 with Amir to get our hair done. I did not curl my hair as planned. Instead, I had it all up in a French Twist (looks neater). Throughout the whole process of getting my hair done, I envisioned the ozone layer depleting with the amount of hair spray used to keep my hair in place (it had to stay in place till 3 in the morning)
1230 HOURS We made our way into the city, and were the first ones to arrive at the Convention Center. I was feeling really awkward because passerbys kept staring at my hairdo. Geezz... Look ahead, and just walk ..
Models for Melvin Lam's Haute Couture show were rehearsing for the fashion show for the ball. Amir and I checked out the After Part Lounge, which was nicely set up with a Salsa Bar-like ambience. Well, I am not sure if we were even allowed to have a look, but a sign outside said Wilkommen [point taken]
1500 HOURS The other debutantes started to arrive. So much for punctuality... we only rehearsed after 4pm. Had to wait for the arrival of Viennese Ensemble, hence Julian, Mubaraq and I went downstairs and got ourselves Starbucks (and ice cream for Mubaraq).
Watching the orchestra play made me miss playing music dearly. It's been two whole years since I left the Ipoh Symphonic Orchestra (it has changed its name. don't remember though.haha!). I miss playing music! And performing.. Currently waiting for Fitri to give me a buzz about the Drum 'N Bass group he intends to form. I have got wicked beats, no joke!
I must say, the ensemble from Vienna gave a great performance. They had *tries to recall* violinists, 2 or 3 violas, a cello, 1 Flutist, two Clarinet players, a bass clarinet, two French Horn players, a trumpet and a trombonist, and a drum set (I don't think I left out anyone..i hope). There's this Viola player who resembles Mika (cute)
The guy sitted far left! Final practice with the orchestra was a brief one. I ended up in a bitchy mood. They set up an unpolished 'dance floor', so one can literally hear shoes squeaking away during the Waltz. Basically, it was hard to dance on that floor. So, people were stopping and complaining, colliding into one another (especially into Amir and I). It felt like a whole dance routine, messed up right before a major performance (somewhat true). Firstly, it's no use putting the blame on the dance floor. A dancer HAS to make it work, by hook or crook. By all means, practice, practice, practice. Truthfully, I do not mind sweating it all out, as long as I get all my steps right. Though, when it comes to ballroom dancing, it takes two to tango. I refused to stop (sorry, Amir). I was that stressed up, seriously. Even Mr Polt kept going "Again..." and "Last two minutes.." (which was clearly not the last two minutes), while everyone grumbled in frustration.
I do not expect anyone to understand how important dancing is to me, especially when it comes to performing in front of 'important people' like the Austrian Ambassador, the Negeri Sembilan royalties, and the Russian Ambassador (was introduced to him and his wife). I might joke around during weekly practices and whatnots, but when it comes to few hours before performing I will do whatever it takes to smitten my routine/dance steps.
After an hour (or maybe a bit more?) we dismissed for dinner. I did not join the other debutantes for dinner. Instead, I started with my makeup, which I obviously struggled with it. And I was bitching ranting away about the sucky practice session to Rob. Coincidentally, he was the only one who sent me a text. haha! Sorry, Rob! But it was good letting it all out. Thanks for listening reading.
1900 HOURS The group came back from dinner. Mubaraq's hairstylist dropped by, hence I joined them and Amir in some 'secluded' room (as I struggle with my makeup). What will I ever do without M's hairstylist, Aunty Jai. She helped me with my makeup and pinned the crown on my head with insane amount of pins. *shake shake wobble wobble*
2000 HOURS All Debutantes were detained in the waiting room till it was time for our debut. However, some managed to sneak out, and helped themselves with the free-flow of Champagne, Beer, Wine and whatnots. Others did what they do best - take numerous photographs. Within an hour, I was getting really tired from all the smiling. R.AGE did another interview *tries hard to grin* And, here's the final video:
Okay. That was a summary of what happened during the ball. haha! I am just too lazy to blog about it..
2200 HOURS Debutantes' Debut ...
We did the Polonaise, the Quadrille, and the Viennese Waltz. That was when shit happened. arghh.. I do not feel like explaining it further. But yea.. let's just say, shit happened. And that totally spoilt my mood for the rest of the night. And Amir kept asking me to pretend nothing happened, which I obviously can't. Hence, I turned all bitchy. *curse curse curses* Let me rant to the parents... haha! Honestly, I was in a total bitch mood that I think even Amir felt like giving me a bitch slap. haha! Oh well...
The ballet performance was beautiful. My eyes were focused on the ballet dancer throughout their her performance..
0000 HOURS - 26th OCTOBER 2008 We adjourned into the ballroom for the Midnight Quadrille with the guests. I danced with the Austrian Embassador. Was later on, introduced to another person from the Austrian embassy, and the Russian embassador and his wife.
Next, came the moment everyone's been waiting for - the 5 couples chosen to participate in the Wiener Opernball 2009 at the Vienna Opera Hall, Austria. Well, if you have watched the video above, you will know who got chosen.
After that, more interviews with R.AGE. We were on the front page today by the way. Alicia and I were twirling around the dance floor with glee - the crowd left the ballroom for the after party. I went in just as it was about to end (the after party). Was busy packing, changing, eating and snitching candles from the ballroom. Jan was lucky, he got a whole bottle of Champagne.
Jan is going to Vienna too! SALSA FEVER Overall, this was a splendid experience. Whoever would have expected a 120-second Youtube video could actually be my ticket to the ball in Vienna. Though, I have to look for sponsors for my gown and flight ticket to Vienna now. Natalie told me that the dance practices in Vienna will be conducted in German. Oh great!
So, to the R.AGE Team from The Star, thank you for selecting me (us) to be apart of this wonderful event. Plus, all the ongoing support and coverage prior to the event (and after). Ian has been a terrific babysitter too! And I am still eyeing on Niki's collection of hats. Specifically this one:
To the Austrian Embassy, for organizing this event and introducing this culture of music and dance to Malaysians. I will be looking forward to Vienna in February 2009!
To Mr Reinhard Polt, for being such a fantastic dance instructor.
To the Viennese Ball KL 2008 committee for making all things possible (organizing weekly practices, workshops, etc)
To Mr Alvin Tay for my stunning gown, and the Malaysian Official Designers' Association (MODA) for supporting this event.
To the R.AGE Debutantes: Aki, Alicia, Andy, Celine, Eva, Hau Yang, Marcus and Mubaraq (alphabetical order, so don't bicker about it). Every moment spent with all of you is just priceless (reunion this Thursday!)
To Natalie Klass a.k.a. Anne Hathaway, for all the help, and advise you've given me.
To ALL DEBUTANTES, it's been a pleasure dancing with everyone for the past one month. Although I did not manage to know everyone personally (and there were a few bitches ..whoops! my blog, my rants), I did get to know more than a handful with really distinct personalities.
Last but not least... AMIR!! How can I forget about you? It's like saying, what am I to do without you? (Happy enough?? Everyone's gonna read this) *clears throat* Ok. This is going to be kind of lengthy...
For the moments you stepped on my toes, all the rides to and fro practices, the invisible bruises you left on my arms and legs from hitting me ample of times, for getting me back on a temporary McDonalds diet (I am blaming you for that. ahaha), the times you made me the laughing stock of the group (yes, I'll be rubbing that in), your shrieks and sudden screams which almost turn me partially deaf, your randomness (still can't beat me though) and spontaneity produced the stupidest videos I have ever taken, and you get the blame for all the tears I shed LAUGHING, for calling me a bitch (and vice versa), for being such a splendid dance partner and tolerating my bitch moments (you've got your bitch moments too), not forgetting your dedication toward practices and your sudden love for dancing (really admirable), for being such a great company and of course, for the wonderful priceless friendship. Seriously, from the bottom of my heart, Thank you! VIENNA BABE!!
[savor that moment, cuz I normally do NOT write such petty thank you notes. happy?]
And to all those not mentioned (because I am just too lazy. well, I am in a rush actually) but played a role in making this a success, and gave me ample of assistance along the way - a huge thank you.

| Dream Within A Dream24th OCTOBER 2008 FINAL FITTING @ ALVIN TAY'S 1500 HOURS
Met up with the gang of R.AGE Debutantes at Alvin Tay Couture for our final fitting (and to collect our gowns/tux for the night). My Alvin Tay added white tulle around the top of my gown, and hand-sewn beads and sequins on the lace. We lingered around, waiting for Nelson from The Star to arrive. Hence explains all the stupid photo shots.
Looking Good, Guys! Me, Amir, Eva, MT, Aki M and I Amir elected me as Laughing Stock of the Day, when he threw on this faux-fur piece around my shoulders. Alicia's mother was laughing. Even Alvin's shop assistant found it hard to hold her laughter and was sniggering away. Great... Thank you, Amir!
White Witch of Narnia Pay Back Time
After the fitting, and chucking everything into Amir's car, we headed over to Pavillion. Met up with Thomas because he's leaving soon. Chilled at The Loaf - I got myself the Loyalty Card. Unfortunately, Mother Nature decided to flush away toxins in the ozone layer by making it rain kangaroos, guinea pigs and green iguanas. The traffic was terrible, as usual (and it was after-working hours). It took us more than 30 minutes to reach KLCC from Pavillion. Ridiculous!
FULL DRESS REHEARSAL @ KUALA LUMPUR CONVENTION CENTER (KLCC) 1900 HOURS
Full dress rehearsal was not up to my expectations. Maybe I set my standards too high, but that's how it is when it comes to dancing (for me). I was acting like a super bitch because everyone kept getting into our way during the waltz. Couples from the inner circles (there were 3 circles during the waltz) colliding into us, so we had to stop and start over again. *fumes* Debutantes stopping halfway, and just stood by the side, blocking.
The dance floor was not set up. Well, basically nothing was set up. Technicians were doing their work, and cloths for decoration were lying all over the floor, blocking. It was a really brief practice. I can't help but to complain non-stop after that. It was our first time dancing in the gowns, I said, "We need more practice!!"

| You're My Lollipop, Sweet Like Cotton CandyI am having my forth Choco Pie at the moment. Adrian introduced this sinful JUNKFOOD to me when he was in Malaysia. grr.. Adrian! And I have yet to mail him a box of Choco Pie (all the way to good 'ole Canada)
By all means, I would love to update. But internet's being a total bitch with my Xanga (or vice versa). It takes AGES to load my Xanga, that eventually, I gave up waiting. It is now 6-in the morning, and surprisingly, it's working pretty fine. So, here I am, sitting in front of my laptop satisfying my small group of readers' demands ...
Remember I wrote about NTV7 joining us during one of the practice at KLDA? It's for The Breakfast Show. Footages and interview was broadcasted on NTV7 on the 22nd of October 2008, Wednesday (three days before the ball). I recorded it from 'Catch Up TV'. Here's the video:
Final practice before the Full Dress Rehearsal. I was really glad to see Natalie!! I don't know why, but practice for that evening ended really soon... I have a couple of really good videos, which Amir refused to let me upload them. Party Pooper! One day, the mischievous side of me will reign, and I MIGHT just upload it on Youtube. Haha!

| I Did What I Had To Do, Saw It Through, Without Exemption.. Much More Than This, I Did It My Way.ONE REPORT DOWN
*feels feverish
forehead*
Next up - Story Board for our TVC shooting
next week, three more articles and an extra article which I am going to
submit to R.AGE.
Oh.. Hello World! Hello Sunshine!
Give Me My Caffeine!!
Before that, I am proud to
say, that there is still some hope in this community. Last night, I
boarded the last Metro Bus #10 from Mid Valley. There were only two
passengers, this random guy, and I. Basically, I was the only girl in
the bus (with the Conductor and Bus Driver). It never occurred to me,
till the random guy approached me. He offered to accompany me to my
stop for his "instincts told him" it's not safe to leave me alone on
the bus (he was supposed to get down a few stops before mine). *dumbfounded for a split second*
"Yes, Please!" was all I could mouth out. You
see, I was busy scheduling my next day's (today's) 'To-Do List' in my
organizer - very deep in thoughts. So, it never hit me that my life
could be in danger. HAHA! So, to the Good Samaritan, Mr Nicholas from USJ2 (did
not get your surname), I am glad our paths crossed. Thank you for
showing me that there's still some hope left in this
society.
Bobbi Brown Session was not bad. They made
us strip off all makeup before they begin - went through a
toning-moisturizing process to prepare our faces for makeup
application. In my opinion, it's too tedious. Argh! And I still suck at
applying eyeshadow. HAHA! I rocked the gel eyeliner though. At the end
of the session, we were each given a RM50 Voucher which expires TODAY!
So, all of us went makeup shopping right after the session at Bobbi
Brown. That's when I felt so lost because I do not know what to get.
It's not like I apply heavy makeup daily .... After much consideration,
I got Bobbi Brown's Creamy Lip
Color #3 in Uber Pink.
I am going out to groom
my eyebrows soon, and get a triple shot Latte from Starbucks, before I
head for dance practice. I swear, I will be all deadly-like if I do not
get my Espresso.
HEINEKEN GREEN ROOMfeat
VAN SHE (Aust), DEXPISTOLS (Jap) and LAPSAP!!!!!
*dance and twirls
around* Oooo yea.. That just made my day. I got into the
Guestlist. HAHAHA! Muchos Gracias, Lapsap! I will support you guys, all
the way... as long as you keep playing your music! Heehee.. So, I am
NOT AVAILABLE on the 1st of NOVEMBER! Thanks to Heineken
too!
Have to head
out now... I am so exhausted. Have a nice week!

| To some it's the strength to be apart, To some it's a feeling in the heartFOUR DAYS .... *and counting*
O-Hail!! I went for my second dress fitting today at Alvin Tay Couture. My dress is ready!! ...partially. The length has to be altered because I was not sure how tall were my heels when Mr Alvin Tay did the measurements few weeks back, so he added extra 4-inches to the length of my dress. I will be wearing Natalie's shoes, which is way less than 4-inches.
Mubaraq - My Camwhore Partner This is HILARIOUS!
I LOVE MY GOWN!
Firstly, there are NO FRILLS/LACES/what nots... Secondly, NO BOWS! Last but not least, it's simple, and NOT girly.
Hahahaha.. Mr Alvin knows best Thank you Mr Alvin Tay
R.AGE Reporter, Ian Yee & GF ..teehee.. Tomorrow, I am going for Bobbi Brown's Makeup Session. Will be curling my hair (Yes, Simon, I am going to curl my hair) this Saturday morning for the Ball. As for my makeup, I can handle it myself. I just need help when it comes to applying eyeshadow. Maybe I will learn something at Bobbi Brown's ??
Amir and I went to The Loaf for Breakfast today, at Pavillion. The shop owned by our previous Prime Minister, Dr. Mahathir. The food, and drinks at The Loaf is worth every cent, seriously. I had a very satisfying breakfast (which I regretted later during fitting), and I will definitely go back for more if I head to Pavillion. I shall sign up for their Loyalty Card next time! Oh! And they make REALLY good coffee too (that's the most important beverage for me)
More photos when I snitch them from Amir's camera. I have got a superb video too. BUT Someone is not giving me the permission to upload it into my Youtube. HAHAHA! oh-well...
Hello, Dance Partner!
